Small car recommendations

Post by ReachHigh »

I have an F150 that I just don't need any more and my Saab 900 Turbo is about dead. I'm looking for a midsized/small car for everything. I prefer manuals and hatchbacks for plenty of room for packs. I'm looking for reviews from climbers who own or have road tripped with said vehicles.

The circus is at the arena this week--you could probably get a clown car pretty cheap.

I've seen 'em fit about 12 clowns in there. How many clowns per mile are you looking for?

dodge neon although i dont know if they still make them. i had a 96 and it was the shit. great mileage (36 mpg/ or 430mi a tank, 11gal tank) the two door i had sat up high enough that i took it through the creeks and many other off road excursions with no problem.

other than that
nissan sentra-kitten has my old one and i think its at around 230000 and it served me very well
honda accord
ford focus - little small but not that small

that boxy Scion is a running lil mofo if you don't mind the looks and the Honda Element seems quite practical as well and more refined.

I was looking at an Element but I don't think the highway milage is enough for me. I'd really like to get 30+

While I won't go as far as to call it the best, I'll put my $.02 in on the Ford Focus. We ended up with a 5 door manual diesel a few years back in Italy (Deep down I was really hoping for Fiat). That Focus would go. We wound up off roading in Tuscany on roads that for a moment we confused for Fixer Rd. From rough gravel, to mountain passes, to city streets that Focus wasn't half bad. Plenty of room for gear. Others stateside who have had a Focus seem to like them.

Mazda MX 3 maybe? Don't know about the ground clearance to get around places like the PMRP though.
I see they are still lopping off mountains in Eastern Kentucky. Electricity isn't cheap.

i would buy a honda fit if i had $$$ for a new car. they fit a lot of stuff for something so small and are comfy to sleep in too.
