Fly Fishing at the Red??

My Dad is in from out of town and is an avid fly fisherman (angler i guess). I have heard that there is some good trout fishing at certain streams down at the gorge. Parched Corn Creek, Indian Creek, Chimney Top Creek, and Swift Camp Creek were all mentioned on a website I found.

Anyone have any information or experience to lend on this issue? Know of anything better?

Thanks!

all of indian creek is pretty good especially if you have waders or at least dont mind wet feet.

the red river is good for small mouth and such. get a trout stamp no matter what.

I ran across fly fishers all decked out in waders and excited several times in the lower gorge. (9b) Maybe it's a seasonal thing with certain days like hunting?

Indian cr. is your best bet this time of year. Maybe Swift cr., there's a fairly deep pool with a sand bar on one side of the stream and a pretty shaded overhang opposite not far upstream from where it meets the Red. I've never had much luck in the warmer months (water temp/flow) Normally at this time of year Wolf River from Burkesville upstream to Wolf Cr. dam at Lake Cumberland would be a better bet but with water levels so low in Cumberland I don't know what conditions are

Just tell him to humor climbers who ask him why he's standing in a river waving a stick

good luck

thanks everyone.

Yeah, my dad is getting a cabin down near Helm's Landing next weekend to check out the tail waters. It'll be cool to bring him to Indian because I'll be climbing down there anyway.

To be honest all i know about indian creek is that it is somewhere in the Lower Gorge region.... any help on an approach to a good spot would be awesome.

Thanks again :)

beta to Pebble Beach will get you to Indian Creek; the parking (for Pebble/Pistol Ridge) is by the bridge but of course the creek will extend well beyond that and runs along side the road towards Purple Valley

there some nice runs and riffles back downstream from the wood bridge, the pool by the bridge usually holds some rainbows as does the next deep pool by the big field downstream past the little section of fast water

This is for the Cumberland River. From Rock House to the ferry is very wadable now and the fly fishing should be good.
