trying to stay out of your way

Post by NotYoMama »

I will be coming to RRG later this summer (on a weekend) with 2-3 other friends... all more or less newb. I personally have never been to RRG, so I'm looking for some TRs or easy sport where we won't be bothering other folks with our predominately newbish presence.

I did search both the online guidebook and the forums, so I know where the topropes are and I know where the easy sport routes are... what I don't know is which ones we can spend the day at without clogging up the works for parties of climbers who are not slow at everything.

I know that any popular crag on a weekend is already newb hell, so maybe there are no options, but I'll take any suggestions that you have.

Man the Red is for Everyone!! Don't let these douchbags think it's "Their" crag.

However, Dont spend all day hangdoging on a 5.8 or 5.9. Make yor run at the route but dont monopolize it. Clean up after yourself, LNT. Treat others with respect and you'll be fine.

If you are sure you will be monopolizing area then try pratice wall at Muir valley, or bruise brothers but it is Newb hell as you put it, otherwise a great wall. I'm sure there are others but I cannot think of any at the momment.

But remember the above rules apply everywhere!! (that is if you dont want to be a dick, If you want to be a dick then ignor the above B.S.)

yeah, thanks for the info. I don't have any plans to be hangdogging, but spending a little extra time teaching for sure. In a perfect world, we would all respect and understand the time required to teach, but the world isn't perfect. I'm Joe LNT and always respectful, sometimes to a fault (would rather just leave vs. argue), which is why I was looking for a place that I wouldn't be in anyone's way.

It sounds like, based on your response & all the other forum responses along the same theme, that practice wall and bruise brothers will be the places to go, at least to start out...

Thanks for your response.

Mr. Driskell is on it.

Also - make sure you visit the Muir valley web site, so you're up on the rules etc. And don't park in the lot if it's already full - it contains a lot of newer development and can get crowded.

Have fun, be cool, be safe.

Pistol Ridge - best bet
Global Village - hit or miss get there early or after 3
Practise Wall - can be a mad house or completely empty
Far Right Side of Solar Collector
Bruise Brothers - Even whem busy there so many routes you'll be fine
Shire - hit or miss

They will all be extremely busy so if you don't want to gum up the works for other newbs you should probably not climb. The red sucks in the summer anyway.

Kirker is right as well...those crags can be hit or miss...another nice area if you go during the week is Military wall and Left flank...I think all of us Noobs at one point or another cut our teeth at those walls. Again I have been there when there was no one...usually a Wed morning...or when there were 40+ people hanging around Mr Bungle...or Sunshine (usually Saturday at 2pm) So Plan accordingly. :) Have fun and know that I envy you at this point because I won't have the opportunity to climb at the red for a while.
