Oh boy, this is where I open the can of worms. I from NC and climb alot around in our area. Instead of going to the NEW, my husband has an opportunity for a job interview near your area (can anyone say paid vacation?)

.
Stupid me, I like 101 degree heat and go up Crowders Mtn, NC every day for the fun of it in the evening. I tell him...hey let's go to see the the Red. Now comes the stupid question...what would all you'se guys recommend. I am just getting back from surgery two years ago (serious) and finally am making 5.9 grade again after five years of being sick. I am probably going to hear the same thing the hardmen guys tell me down here...the New is probably the only place that has some semblence of lower grade temperature than NC. Be kind I am originally from the Indiana area and I never knew how close this sport was to home.

Check the online guide for the red, Muir Valley is a great area for lower grades.

I have the most current guidebook for the Red which I have sat amazed at the content. You'se guys did a really good job. I was impressed. But my experience in the past 15 years was mostly new river, one stint at Tullulah Gorge, Great Falls, Crowders Mtn, Linville, Looking Glass, etc. I am waiting for September I love our sport it is unlimited. I just wasn't sure where in sam hill to start. Too many choices!

I wanted to use ya'll but I was hestitant that you'd think I was hick. It's like: I go home to Indiana...they say I have a thick southern accent. I go back down here they tell me I'm a yankee in disguise. Geesh!. I don't know anymore. I have lived in one place 14 years and the other 23. Go figure.

Muir valley, is your best bet. I feel bad for you having to go to Crowders all the time.

I have shoulder problems and have climbed at Muir Valley I would say that is you best bet. If you like trad, I would maybe try pebble beach. I've climbed environmental impact with my bad shoulder. Not to bad. And there are some other climbs that aren't to bad at Pebble beach. Hope that helps.
