Swimming...

With the weather going thru the roof, I'm wondering about places to swim in the red. I used to go out to the reservoir but its illegal from what I've heard and a bit of a drive.

Is there any good spot in Muir where the water is deep? The bottom of the waterfall in Calvin Hollow would be awesome if it was dug out to be deeper but I somehow think Rick would be against that (understandably).

In the PMRP, the pond in Sore Heel looks like it could be nice. Anyone swam in there? I know its a settling pond but I've heard people have swam in other settling ponds in the southern region. Maybe we could build a little beach in there 8)

spots to swim:

- suspension bridge: has a jump rock and a rope swing (but when i went the water was low and the rope swing was no where near the water) also has a nice sandy beach. it's pretty popular though.

- concrete bridge/way to wall of denial: several nice deep holes to swim in. first one you come to has a jump rock, but the water's a bit cooler there due to a spring that comes into the river at the same place. if you want more privacy/less red necks - hike further back.

those are my 2 favorites anyways

have fun swimming in the PMRP - that's just way too gross for me.

There is a old man made pond about 50 ft deep with a platform that goes out to the center. It's in the southern region but to tell you how to get there would be impossible. It's know by the locals but it has been a while since i've been there.

its the first road on your right just after 715. after that it gets scary. I'll see if I can find it next time i'm down with a 4 x 4.

is that the place just north of pinch em tight that the locals call "gar fish rock"? last year i walked by there and the tree w/ the rope swing had been chopped and fell right into the pool where you would jump from the rock.

The higher pool at the Calvin Hollow waterfall is a dished out area only a few inches deep in solid rock. So, it can't be dug deeper. Something else to think about when considering swimmin' holes is that the water often comes down from higher pastures where livestock are grazing. The e-coli count is probably through the roof. Sorry, there are no swimming areas in Muir. I sure coulda used one today!

The resevoir may be illegal but I see all sorts of locals there. No one has said a damn thing.

the reservoir is great and i'd probably still go out there but i wanted to find somewhere for a quick dip after climbing. i jumped in behind the friction slab this weekend, wasn't too bad.
