Utah's wild places at increased risk

Post by pru »

I've posted about this before, and now time is running out. If you care, please let your voice be heard, eh?
The Bush administration is moving at breakneck speed with plans to drill and destroy some of the most stunning wilderness areas in Utah.

The architects of these plans believe they can sneak this land grab past us in their waning days of power.

Please take urgent action.

Protect 11 million acres of pristine public lands from sprawling oil & gas development and off-road vehicles (ORVs).

Your quick email today to Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne will send a strong message: Public lands belong to the public – that's you and me.

Utah's Red Rock canyon country is world-renowned for its stunning beauty, sandstone arches, slot canyons, and wild rivers. A delight to nature lovers, these wild places are also home to bighorn sheep, cougars, endangered peregrine falcons, and more.

The Bush administration is rushing to sacrifice these fragile lands even though conservation groups, citizens, and Congress have been fighting to protect them for decades. There is widespread opposition from most everyone except those who stand to profit.

Tens of thousands of Americans – including many of you, after we contacted you about this issue earlier in the year – have already voiced their opposition by submitting public comments to the Bureau of Land Management. Nonetheless, the BLM is proceeding with finalizing management plans that would open up the vast majority of these public lands to oil & gas development and increased off-road vehicle use.

Click here NOW to tell Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne to put an immediate halt to these destructive plans!

[BETTER YET, WRITE YOUR OWN LETTER AND SEND IT]

Save Utah's Red Rock canyon country from irreversible damage.

And please help create a domino effect – it's the only way we can succeed in protecting these precious public treasures. After you take action, tell your friends and family what's at stake, and ask them to take action too.

Any day now, we're going to invade Iraq - that will totally stabilize the middle east and cause oil prices to drop to something like $10 a barrel (not to mention creating world peace) The nice side effect will be that Charmagne oil will go out of business and all that development in Utah will stop.

What? I've been frozen in a glacier? It isn't 2002? We're going to have a black president!

conservation will always fall to the wayside of cheaper goods. if people can't afford to go somewhere then why should they care???

If every Mormon in Utah gave just one dollar. .
The best years of your life are the ones in which you decide your problems are your own.
You do not blame them on your mother, the ecology, or the president.
You realize that you control your own destiny.

drill it. screw it. level it.

what's Utah but a bunch of old Indian graffiti and antiquated, misogynistic people who tore a bloody path across America in search of their american dream?
