The 17 Year Cicada Invasion has Begun

Post by Glenrider »

The 17 Year Cicada [This one is called BROOD XIV), nope they are not "locusts" or "grasshoppers".
They are starting to emerge now, be informed they don't eat anything (they only drink water while they are alive),
they don't sting, bite or harm people. They sing to attract mates - - only the males sing and with Billions emerging
this year, you 'will' be hearing them sing.

After they mate they lay their eggs in tree branches and they love fruit trees for doing this. Laying the eggs can
split small tree limbs and may make the tree look sick but it should not kill them. The Cicada want the tree to live
as their offspring will be sucking on its roots for the next 17 years.

Hit these links for more including recipes for eating them! Yep, eat them!

I love the deafening noise they make! It's cool that we can eat them...but why?

rhunt,
I'll pass on eating them too. But Humans are second only to the Goat in their ability to eat anything and everything on the Planet. Yuk!

ahab,
Great Pic!

you want some bug?? oh yea, get some - hot babes in that Starship Trooper too- although Denise Richards may have reason to sue her plastic surgeon- the haircare budget for that film both male and female has to hold the record

Bleh! I'm glad they're harmless - but I still really, really, really don't want to slap up onto a hold and get a handful of squished bug! [shudder!]

That's the big reason for posting this. For safety's sake while Climbing, don't fear them and don't be distracted by them. They are harmless to you so try to ignore them if possible.

Yeah WTF? I'm only 17 and I for sure remember this happening like 5 years back or something. We've even got T-shirts.

Maybe some of them were too hungover and overslept.
