Hello everyone,
I was wondering what kind of warm ups you do before getting on a project. I've been trying to the find the right balance between no warm up and noodle arms. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Max

i hike. that usually is a good warm up for me.

sometimes i climb something easier than my project - but usually that's not an option bec i'm projecting the warmups

seriously, i've heard a good warm up is to put your hands over your head - straight arms. then open/close your hands (squeeze when closing). do this 100 times. shake out. repeat 2 more times. i know it sounds ridiculously easy but i get tired after about 60 and i have to wait a long time before i can repeat. then again - i'm not in great climbing shape either.

I like to warm up about a full number grade below my project, sometimes two routs if its a particularly cold day or just a really fun 10. Or, whatever the crag lets me warm up on.
My Favorites:
Defy the laws
monkey bars
whip stocking
Monkey in the middle (my new favorite)
Pulling pockets
Fuzzy

I like to do at least 3 routes before I get on anything hard. Preferably more. I'll climb the same 10 or 11 three or four times if need be.

If you get too tired after 4 or 5 easy routes... you need some stamina.

I warm up on my project, to relearn moves, just bolt to bolt. It has worked well for me.

I personally like getting a slight pump and then I wait 30-40 minutes before getting on something hard. Once you get well trained, your body learns to use lactic acid as fuel (converted into glucose).

It does depend on your stamina - you may need to do more training days rather than projecting days.

Let me change my answer, because I don't project. I have not taken more than 3 tries on anything I have done in 2008. I warm up on whatever I want to send and then do it the next try.

so over the winter Andrew stopped all subtle spray and decided go full on "I'm the man" spray. huh it's weird what a winter can do to a person.

I can tell you what doesn't work. Warming up while trying to send something a couple letter grades below your project. It makes for a long day.
