The OLN/Everest thing is what Souders entered as a competitor.

Yeah, they might as well go ahead and find a tall cliff and just jump, or get in a freezer and close the door. My money is on the Mountain, anyone want to take that bet?

I'll take that bet, I also bet that there is some crying, backstabbing, mistrust, and romantic relationships. And the transmitter tower on the adjacent peak falls over.

So you are betting they will make it to the top? Damn, romantic relations on a cold ass mountain will be interesting to watch. Talk about a stalagmite in your pants....

There is a big spread on Everest in the May 2003 issue of National Geographic with a great map/poster of the mountain. Barry Bishop, one of the first American climbers to summit is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati.

I was talking to a guy at Benchmark yesterday about a similar situation, where a friend of his was with a group of people who had never climbed before and the leader of some tour decided to just try Everest (you know, what the heck, why not?), and how he spent most of his time bringing people back down from base camp due to altitude sickness. Fortunately, the local monks housed them and fed them well... I don't think many of them had a very good time. I think most people get this really romantic notion of alpine mountaineering from all the gorgeous pictures they see, but fail to read the trip reports that are next to the pictures.
