Ever had it or any other bad stuff like cellulituos? How long did it take to get rid of it? Did you have to be hospitalized?

I got an infection in my right hand and it's been a hell of a time getting rid of it. Started with redness and lots of pain so I thought I broke it or something. The whole forearm ended up swelling and a scary red line was going up the rest of my arm towards the bod. Drs almost hospitalized me but antibiotics kicked in. I used my last antibiotic today and the swelling is coming back. pain is too. goddammit i wanna climb - this shit is wicked

When I was in highschool a friend of mine on the wrestling team got cellulituos in his arm. Made his elbow swell up really huge and he couldn't wrestle for a few week or two. It was pretty nasty. Sorry to hear you came down with something similar. Good luck getting over it.

It's usually a cosmetic thing on chubby people. I've never heard of it causing additional swelling or redness!

Glad you got on it early, K! Hope you get well soon dude.

Cellulitis: bacterial infection spreading through tissue planes can be a medical emergency
Cellulite: not a medical emergency...cosmetic

Hope healing goes well!!! Can take a long time to recover

I had MRSA two years ago from a spider bite on my forearm, I was out from climbing for about 3 weeks till the streaking went away.

Unfortunately, community acquired MRSA is very common and tough to beat - see a lot of it.
Responds slowly to antibiotics - can take 2-4 weeks and must be the right antibiotic; sometimes you never know if the antibiotic worked if you cannot get a test or culture of any drainage from the infected area to prove what bug and which antibiotic it is sensitive to.
MRSA responds to trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole (TMP/SMX, Bactrim, Sulfa), doxycycline, but not 100%. Resistant or more serious cases require IV, in hospital, vancomycin. Cubicin is another oral med - very expensive.
Non-MRSA skin infections respond to many drugs, ciprofloxacin, amoxicillin, cephalexin, etc, etc.
If it has a localized pocket of fluid or abscess anywhere this must be drained, lanced, etc. Any open sores or breaks in the skin need antibiotic ointment and a bandage 2-3 times a day.

Sounds like you need at least a couple more weeks of antibiotic; may need to see if anything can be drained and any fluid cultured.

Good luck; climbing doesn't make it worse, if you can stand the hurt.

(remember free medical advice is usually worth what you paid)
