Curious about Red River!

Hi everyone!

My name is Albin, I'm a sixteen year old boy from Sweden. In July I'm moving to Cincinnati for a year as an exchange student. I enjoy climbing really, really much and I've been climbing for about 3 years now. I found this place RockQuest in Cincinnati on Google and it looks really great, I intend to go there a lot! I'm guessing some/many of you have been there, perhaps you could tell me a little bit about it?

This morning I read an article in the 8a.nu year book about Red River Gorge, and I was so thrilled when I noticed it was located not far from Cincinnati! Exactly how far is it, does it take long to get there by car? Are there any good (=cheap) hotels/camping spots to stay at if you're climbing there for several days, or do you think it would just be easier to drive back to Cincinnati in the evening, and then go back there next morning? I'm turning 17 in August and I hope I can manage to get a driver licence (even though I have no experience of driving yet), because as far as I know public transportation isn't really your thing. :) Is it usually hard to get a driver license in USA?

Also, do you think it will be easy to find people to climb with? I'm curious mainly about how RockQuest is, but also Red River Gorge. Naturally, I don't know anyone there yet but I hope I will find at least a few 'climbing buddies'!

If you have any other information or tips about the city Cincinatti or the weather/climate or really anything, I'd love to hear them! I'm really curious about the life in general over there. Soz if this is off-topic or if I chose the wrong forum.

Albin

Normally we make fun of noobs but personally I hope you find a ride down. Go to rockquest for sure to meet people. If I lived near cinci I'd give you a ride myself.

The best spot to camp cheaply in the gorge and meet partners and have access to food is Miguel's Pizza and climbers' campground. That's 2 U.S. dollars per night, or approximately .027 Euros. It takes about 2 hours to drive to the Gorge from Cincy. There's another good gym in Cincy besides RockQuest that's called Climbtime. Check both out. Cincy has a good zoo, a fun amusement park called King's Island, and, uhh, some other stuff. Good luck.

that karma thing still gettin to you krampus? :P

albin, you'll love the RRG, and you'll have no problem meeting people to climb with, especially if you go to the gym. heck, half the time people just randomly post on here looking for partners for such and such day and have pretty good luck from what i can tell.

When Saxman pretends to be a girl he says he's a girl, not a 16 year old boy. He also dresses the part. Thank God he hasn't figured out how to use his webcam yet.

I'm away all day and look what happens. Hey Albin, just make friends at the gym and you will be set.
