Shamis: You are right about Einstein. His name is often brought up as atheist. He wasn't. He used god as an allegory for universal order.

Little did you know your grandma was a militant member of the Women's Knitting and Terrorist Society so she therefore went to hell.

Perhaps as an homage to his litigation skills, his family sued both the utility company and the pool supply store, for failure to disclose the danger of poking a metal rod into the power lines.

I think its 4-5 isn't it, as if 5-4 wasn't bad enough and my paraphrase of Einstein was in reference to his work on Relativity and that pesky little gravity dialogue those physics guys jerk around with,Charlie, nice post on faith and the concept that it untimately comes down to the individual- its like the womb kinda, you come in alone even if its jointly occupied and you go out alone, faith opens a dialogue where you don't have to be alone or even leave alone... And it was then I carried you, sayeth the Lord

Crankmas, you're right, fixed. Involuntarily it's difficult for me to post a losing record.

He made several references to Buddhism as well.....

Charlie: I don't know your grandmother from Eve. From your description she sounds like quite a lady. I would be (have been) happy to know her if she would admit me. Unfortunately the people from her generation were on average vicious. 90% of them (back then) would have taken one look at me and dismissed me as a nigger. The value of my life to them was about that of a dog... if they had no special fondness for dogs. This was the reality of the situation. Why sugar coat it? Their religion did not allow them to see through this brand of injustice. My grandfathers are of another generation. Their sexism and antigay perspectives were also vicious. They were in favor of burning all homosexuals at the stake. Both of these were religious / spiritual men-- one white and one black.

I don't think these kinds of conversations are entirely unproductive. They represent the minority voice. Usually all one hears is what a great guy Jesus was and how great people were back in the day. Reality: people sucked and our society was vicious. The old religions that we inherited are less relevant to social progress-- less relevant to progress toward a better society.

If these kinds of conversations unnerve you... don't play.
