Shamis, That's a great quote, one that I believe in whole heartedly. A key qualifier is the word "essential". At first it bugged the hell out of me to have my bag searched, to have to take off my shoes and belt, to be super careful to not accidentally have any sharp object in my carry on, all that security crap, whenever I flew. I've gotten used to it. And while intrusive airport security represents a loss of liberty, if that's what it takes to keep murderous religious zealots from hijacking planes, I guess one couldn't really call it essential liberty.

As you can tell, I think all this "war on terror" stuff is pretty important. I think it's important that we think about it, think about the consequences of our actions, and the consequences of losing or even winning "the war". Certainly I'm willing to play devil's advocate on a lot ot these threads. Responses by you, gulliver, der uber, Wolf, and even the Evil One certainly make me think. I hope I can return the favor.

Unfortunately some can't articulate their point of view, so they resort to name calling and charges that anyone who doesn't share their opinion must have been indoctrinated.

The 'war on terror' can never be won. As such, it is the ultimate tool for unchecked government.

We can win the war on terror like we won the war on drugs! Onward xtian soilders!

But the war on terror can be lost. And if you don't think the consequences would be horrific, you're burrying your head in the sand.
