Well, as I sit here typing this, I have a just had a reality check in the form a nice family that came into my dealership today. I walk in and see a family talking to a service writer about their car. It seems the battery and alternator have shorted out over the last day or two. They tell of having to hitch hike a few miles to get another battery. I start in by telling them they could have used the GM roadside assistance program, They had no cell phone, kinda odd in this day and age. I look at they're car and notice its muddy. I ask them what they're address is, they don't know, they're visiting a freind. DING! it hits me square in the forehead, the mud, the Louisanna plates, the Southern drawl, the water, I'm seeing the faces of Katrina, right here in Ohio. After I remove my foot from my mouth and myself from the situation, I listen closely to what they have to say. First off they don't blame anybody for what happened, only that they thought it should have been better planned. They tell of the National Guard allowing them and others 45 minutes to clear out(hence the small amount of stuff) and then when stopping on a bridge where they saw some cop's,were told to leave at gun point, the cops were guarding prisoners. We have been discussing/arguing/pointing fingers on here all week, and now for some reason it seems all that more real to me. I repaired they're car for free and re-imbursed them the money spent on a battery.
I contacted my church for help, I dont know what they are going to do, I dont know what more I can do alone, I need ideas, suggestions, help. Anything that can be done I would really appreciate it.
Thanks

The media is quick at pointing out every one's faults. Too bad it (media) does not get much rating for finding solutions to these problems. I personally prefer hearing something like:
Hummm... this didn't go so well, so as of today, THIS is how it's gonna be fixed. Oh, yeah, and that over there also needs fixing... and let us point out the plan that's been taken to make sure it doesn't ever happen that way... etc...

Fuck yeah. If a line is going to be drawn between legitimate funding and illegitimate funding it should be contested in precisely this way. Lets look at where our tax dollars are going, maybe think about why they go there, and then (if our 15 second attention span will allow) ponder for a moment the circumstances of what is funded and what is not.

Go America!!!

Clinton's former Treasury Sec. Rousch? had some good points on NPR this morning, halting the recent Highway Bill, pork laden as it was and taking care of real priorities like the Gulf coast. American citizens need to come together, our government sucks, once elected, congress acts like a college freshman with a gold card.
