I wasn't using big numbers to look more credible. I was using them to reflect the approximate current human population size. I am not really making an argument. I am just trying to explain what evolution means to those that may not really know. I was trying to make it easy to understand but I guess I failed. Also, I'm not trying to argue against God or religion.Ultra wrote:Danny, also . You could have made your point better if you had pointed out that Sickle Cell anemia was developed in Africa as a genetic response to malaria. Save yourself from the big numbers. You may think that the numbers will buy your arguement credibility it doesn't. It just make you look like you are trying to talk over someone. Keep things in laymans terms. Its more digestible that way and doesn't make you look like an ass.(that was not meant as an inflamatory remark.Think about it)
Einstein said,"If you can't explain your idea to an eight year old then you don't know what you are talking about."
Danny, Sorry if I came out with guns blazin' I was just wanting to put it to rest and to make a point. As for what you propose. I think that a certain amount of deviation from the pattern is allowable within the framework. Hence red hair vs. blonde hair or no hair at all. Now as for the hair mutating into horns of feathers is a whole other arguement.
(turns to judges) what do you think?
(judges signal, Point for Ultra) Thank You...(applause!!) Thank you very much!
I also want to say that My Religion is a religion of science and logic. Not blind faith. Empirical science when born out to its logical conclusion points decisively in the favor of God. Besides God=Science/Logic. Science/Logic=God.

Now that friends is what I would call a leap of faith.Ultra wrote: I also want to say that My Religion is a religion of science and logic. Not blind faith. Empirical science when born out to its logical conclusion points decisively in the favor of God. Besides God=Science/Logic. Science/Logic=God.
I know that you believe that you understood what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

meetVA, Your rhetorical response eludes that you are a cool-aid drinker (non-thinker) you offer up no hypothosis or logic to the question(s) at hand. You in short are an ankle-biter.
Why don't you try thinking for yourself and propose something...anything. Anything that is other than to recite rhetoric.

no doubt...I am enjoying this. I do find it amusing when religous people dismiss science without trying to delve into it. I find it equally amusing when non - religous people also dismiss faith and "churchy stuff" with equal animosity. Might it have something to do with the human nature of wanting to be right? If we don't understand, we dismiss? If science class was tough, then science is boring and bunk. If church was boring, same outcome.
Positive vibes brah...positive vibes.
Y'all need to study up on Hardy-Weinberg Equilibrium. I've taken many courses in evolution and genetics in college as a biology major and I also was an assistant instructor at IU (UTI) for two years for L111 (Evolution and Diversity) and L112 (Biological Mechanisms). Anyway, the gene for sickle cell anemia is widely prevalent among Africans because those who are heterozygous for this recessive allele are more resistant to malaria. If you are homozygous recessive for the sickle cell gene then you will have problems with your red blood cells. If you are homozygous dominant then you will not have the increased resistance to malaria. Therefore, this recessive allele shows up frequently there because it is selected for in such a way that it is advantageous to those individuals and they are thus more likely to reproduce and pass on that recessive allele.

This is the basic creed of all truly othodox christian. By orthodox I dont' mean the branch of the church that split with Rome but correct, conventional and basicly accepted beliefs of all Christian Sects.
The Apostle's Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
the Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:
Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.
The third day He arose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy *catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting. Amen.
I have a question for those who have trouble with this belief system. What do you believe in. I would be interested to read the philosophies of those who oppose this system and who are willing to state their religious beliefs or philosophies. Thanks!
