Actually that isn't the case. The oil company wanted the land. They wanted climbers out. The RRGCC purchase was an amazing purchase and kept a lot of land open for climbers.

Actually the oil company starting taking notice one spring, I guess about 2 years ago.
A few very vocal people on this board went there for their first time and could not stop talking about how great it was, blah, blah, blah.
All spring it was the SR this, and the SR that.
Then the crowds hit the area, parking was out of hand, and the oil company had a problem.

It was not the coalition purchasing the land that created the problem. The purchase was to secure the land for climbing.

You know, as soon as it's realized that *everyone* is responsible for their own actions, and how their actions affect climbing at the red, then you can quit copping out and placing blame on an organization.

good points, Jeff. I also don't think people realize how much work went into and is still being done to keep the Oil Company in line. Countless, patient hours. Johnny and the rest of the RRGCC toiled endlessly to secure that land. They also took the legal high road and I heard from Dr. Bob that it is really paying off now. The RRGCC deserves mad respect for their accomplishments.

The constant lament for lack of real help is a problem that could be easily solved. I know the new regime wants to effect this change and I hope they are able to to do so.

It is a statement like this that worries me. Why is it "they" and not "we"?

Climbers who venture to the gorge will all benefit from the purchase of the SR whether they actually climb there or not. Without this additional climbing area, the other areas would just be that much more crowded. We all have a vested interest in the success of this land acquisition therefore we should support it: whether financially or through other means.
