hey artsay...quit stealing my lines!!!!

too bad a few of you aren't satisfied w/ 'no smoking' or 'smoking allowed' signs - just in case you can't tell when you go inside. you just want some place to be forced not to allow smoking because you don't like it and you think you have a 'right' to go into someone else's property without having to breathe smoke. smoke is a little easier to notice than lead paint or asbestos tiles, btw. citing other regulations doesn't make your case ("2 wrongs don't make a right"). I know what inspectors/regs are all about (I'm a mechanical engineer, though I'm getting sick of it) - they're all about telling you they're needed to keep you safe (since you can't take care of yourself). job security anyone?

well then like i said don't like it, fight to change it...since you are getting sick of the engineer thing how about trying your hand at politics...

thanks for the suggestion, Mia. however, we should all be wary of anyone who wants to be a politician. what kinda sicko would follow that path?

right, now you're getting it. if I were to work in a coal mine, I'd probably look into getting some sort of mask with an air filter. do you need OSHA to tell you that?

The whole point of having these regulations is to put the onus of protecting people on the ones who can most likely afford them, like the coal companies, not the poor miners. Like the restaurants, not the poor college students who need to work to go to school. Waiting tables is the quickest form of good money available to students. So, make people responsible to them.

Those places should be smoke free to keep those dancers at their best cardio ability. Mia should agree with this.

I have to quote Wes on this issue. People are stupid. Have a hellabig debate about smoking in public, instead of banning cigarette production and fixing the problem the right way. O no we cant do that,we would have to tax something else 400% to replace the lost tax revenue.

Man, when I was in college I was offered a free boob job if I'd start stripping at Pure Gold. I told the guy to go to Hell. Instead, I waited tables. I made decent money and kept both my clothes and most of my dignity.

I hated working in the smoking sections too. Part of me thought those jokers were wasting their time on fine cuisine when they couldn't really taste it anyway. Oh and they were generally horrible tippers.

economics lesson:

the onerous goes on the consumer, who pays for the goods produced by the company. it's all overhead - whether it's wages, FICA, or the power bill. the cost is all passed onto the revenue source.
