So last month I heard a story on NPR about a challenge to record an album in February. I had just decided to try to do something like that anyway so I though this would be a great thing to join in on. The general idea here is that people do their album over the month, posting helpful samples for other people and their demos as they go. In the end you send in a finished cd to the site, they compile them and they're added to a jukebox on the site, there's a listening party and... no prizes or anything. Anyway, I'm doing this thing and I've got some songs done for it. Following is a link to these songs.

Here's all I ask of you if you download them. At the end of the month delete all the versions you've downloaded and go back to this page and download the final copies of them all. I only consider one of the song up now to be completely finished and even it may see one more mastering session.

So go here and listen to what's there. Bookmark the page and go back and visit it every once in a while if you like it. I have to have at least the bones for one song recorded and uploaded tonight or I'll be way behind to finish and I need to have another up tomorrow night as well.

Enjoy. Let me know what you think.

That's it. There's kind of both going on. There's a "sample engine" where people share parts and demos. I'm going for straight up, in-house production from the ground up, so to speak. Of course I've got a pretty massive collection of loops to draw from and quite a bit of the drumming is at least in part from that. I do program a lot of the drums (if I had a kit I would play the parts but that's a chunk of change in the future) and I mix those programmed drums with sampled loops but the guitars, keyboards, and bass are all played. My latest song "Radio Sucks" should be up tonight once I track some vocals for it. I'm falling behind and I might have to pump out a couple of acoustic pieces.

Y'know, I never was too hot on the Doors. Catchy songs for the most part. Quite a few of the lyrics are really stupid like "Light My Fire" which sounds like it was written by a 5th grader with a rhyming dictionary.

But when I saw a film of the Doors live my opinion of them went way up. Almost every rock singer since then owes most of their moves to Jim and the band itself was WAY better on stage than in the studio.

I still don't really care all that much for their studio stuff.

While working the last few days I've listened to some old XTC stuff.
Hear the neighbor slam his car door
don't he realize this is respectable street
What you think he bought that car for
cause he realized this is respectable street
I was going to write a song called "Quality Street" but now I can't.
