Hey Hoyne, that special cider you made a couple years ago sure was tasty!

Oh yeah, mmmm.... Apple Pie.

1 pkg mulling spices (I like Aspen Mulling Spices)
1 gal apple cider -- FRESH is better.
750 ml decent vodka. Don't waste your money on Kettle, but Skol tastes like crap no matter what you put it in. Skyy works well. This makes it pretty strong, so adjust the amount you add accordingly to how fast you want people to fall over.

Warm the cider & mulling spices until just under boiling. Remove from heat, add vodka. Stir.

If you really want to go college style and get everyone hammered, you can substitute everclear for the vodka.

Serve warm.

YUM.

A friend of mine used to make raisin jack and distill it using a modified rice cooker. Pretty simple operation really. The hard part is making it taste good.

Is the Special Apple Cider just overwhelmingly strong? Sounds good but might be too much for me if the vodka is overwhelming. Might have to give that a shot. (no pun intended)

Dig, just put a little bit of vodka at a time until you get to the desired mix.

Or do it the way I do:
Sample the vodka to check quality. Take a large pot to warm cider in, check the vodka again to be sure it is of the highest quality. You don't want to be halfway thru making this only to realize you got cheap liquor - pour one level cup and drink.

Turn on the stove... stir in mulling spices... keep stirring. At this point it's best to make sure the vodka is still OK, try another cup ... just in case.

Turn off the stove thingy. Take another swig of the v to check for tonsisticity.

Next, remove pot from heat or shove top, or something. Who giveshz a sheet. Check the Skyy. Pour half of the bottle in. Keep stirring.... Finally, finish the vodka before you test the apple pie drink thing and make sure to put the stove in the dishwasher.

YUM.

I used to take a gallon of cider from the store and store it in a cold garage/refrigerator for about a month without opening it. As long as it stays cold and sealed it doesn't go to vinegar. I don't know how much alcohol it developed, but it gets a bit of a tangy taste at the end. Pretty tasty if you ask me.

I think I read somewhere that for home brewing purposes you are allowed to make 100 gallons/year. Of course, it is illegal to sell it. That is why I used to give it away as gifts.
