Sorry if it's getting redundant, but some people seemed to be confused by the numerous posts about the gathering.

The Trail Day has not been cancelled. We will still be doing "work" and also having the dinner/festivities in the pm on Saturday. Climbing is still on for Sunday, and possibly some work as well. There are numerous excellent rain day climbs at Muir and elsewhere in the gorge. The weather also seems to be looking up, so let's not be total pansies and show that we're not scared of a little bit of rain. Remember that this is one way for us to show our appreciation of Rick and Liz's generosity.

GATHERING Update (adding to what Squeezedlemon has already posted):

Liz and I just got down here and found things in good shape. Bob Sparks pulled off a minor miracle by getting one of our Muir neighbors, Rogers Elementary School, to let us use their facility Saturday night for the party, as Karla posted. Bob will grill the chicken and ham before hand and deliver it to the school about 6 pm on Sat.

Weather permitting, we will also be grilling hot dogs over a campfire and serving other food at the meadow near the parking lot at lunch on Saturday.

On the www.muirvalley.com website map, the dot marked as "Rogers" is where the school is located.

Things are looking up, weatherwise. It is pretty dry at present. We're hopeful that there will be enough breaks in the weather to build some trails.

Of course, there is one taboo at the Saturday night bash. No alcohol. This IS an elementary school. Thanks for your understanding.

Looking forward to seeing you all there Sat.!!

I don't understand some climbers these days. I don't know if these sissy boys and girls are victims of the climbing gym mentality or they just don't get outside enough. Maybe they all start climbing indoors these days and they don't know better. Are there really that many climbers these days who are such wimps and pansies that they are scared of a little rain? Back in the day it didn't matter what the forecast called for. Climbers were a tough and hardy group capable of withstanding whatever nature dished out, they thrived on adventure, they accepted the challenges of the environment, and they often prevailed. The forecast is not so significant at the Red... unless it is extreme cold or heat/humidity because there is ALWAYS somewhere and something to climb in the rain!

To all those who called Rick for camping spots, if you are worried about the weather, Cathy (Weber's neighbor) has a cabin in Muir Valley. There are no beds but there is a bathroom. You can bring sleeping bags, etc. and there is no fee/charge for staying over the weekend, but she does request that she be contacted first at 606-668-7855. Thanks!

The weather is looking fine. We'll be there toting implements of destruction.,

We're not going to be able to make it until mid-afternoon (2-3pm). Where should we go to look for everyone?

Friday morning update --

Pessimists: Weather Channel gives us Partly Cloudy forecasts for both Saturday and Sunday.

Realists: Accuweather says Sun and Clouds for Saturday, Mostly Sunny for Sunday.

Optimist: NOAA says Mostly Sunny for both days.

Artsay, there should be some people manning the info tent at the parking lot. They can radio teams down in the valley to see which group needs help around that time. See you there!

We're not staying for the party. Just thought we would give a few hours of help but if you think we shouldn't bother coming...
