Such hatred.
Sad stuff.
You know Jeff. I agree to a certain extent. I've never had such a visceral reaction to a human being. It sucks. I don't really like that about myself.

But this wasn't Ray's fault. She brought it on herself by acting horribly.

If the RRGCC were a private company with capatilistic goals, I could understand all of this hatred, bickering, and bad blood going back a long way. BUT, since the coalition is supposed to be just that, a coalition, something is amiss. There is obviously a major problem with communication and public perception. It doesn't matter if that perception is right or wrong, it needs to be addressed. What are new people who come on here going to think about the coalition? It doens't matter that they don't go to either of the two websites to find out more, bad perceptions are out there and must be addressed. This is utterly ridiculous. Find a way to fix the problems. If you can't fix the problems, guess what that means, bring in new people. That doesn't necessarily mean throwing out others. There just doesn't seem to be a concerted effort to show a united front on anything.

Wow, I've been gone for a few days and had a LOT to catch up on!!

I have to say I agree with Spragwa here. On leadership issues, the volunteers that have tried to help and been shot down so many times they don't offer any more. Heck, even if you're hired to do a job you're treated the same. Nothing is ever right because it's not done the micro-managers way. BTW, I'm happy to add my name to the list of those who would be happy to help out if "permitted".

Gone are the days of me trying to help only to hear how I've done everything wrong and am useless. I won't deny there is a lot of bitterness here. I don't have time for that type of BS. What's that saying about not looking a gift horse in the mouth? I doesn't apply to the RRGCC I guess.

It sad really, because I love what the RRGCC is "supposed" to stand for and do. If it could only happen! A change in leadership would be an excellent start, but with all the damage done over the years, it would still take time to heal, for people to see the change is real, and be willing to put themselves out there again. I sincerely hope it can happen!

the Vitriol I hear is a foreshadowing of the end of the RRGCC. That is why I bailed. I saw the writing on the wall and the end coming. With the current leadership I knew I could get no where in influencing the organization toward a path more in sync with the community (i.e. a path where the community didn't hate its own advocacy group and where said advocacy group didn't insult and alienate its constituent community). I can only say that I tried.
Listen to this group, RRGCC. Who is going to pay for the Murray Property? Do you think the folks who anted up the first time will be so generous again? If you ask nicely, maybe. But this isn't nice. To anyone I care about on the BOD, you are liable for the organization. You better fix it.

OK folks I think I have a way out of all this bad juju.
I want you all* to immediately visit this site

*everyone except Danny and Jeff because I think they have already
created the subconcious belief that they have communicated with their
spirit guides and guardian angels.

seriously though, I think there are a lot of very passionate, capable and hard working people in the RRG climbing community. I hope that some personality idiosyncracies and flippant internet responses don't continue to drive a big wedge where one isn't needed. The bottom line is that we all love climbing in the Red and want to ensure that we can continue to climb on as many good crags as possible. I can understand why Ray doesn't want "spam" on his site and I can also understand why the RRGCC wants to direct serious questions to its site. Perhaps, Ray could just put some text on his front page with a link to the site mentioning that if someone wants to ask RRGCC board members etc.. "official" questions and get an "official" answers that is the place to do it. It might cut down on "spam" and it would be a friendly (not that you haven't been) gesture to say the least?

Recently, Johnny posted that the coalition needed volunteers so I stepped up, got off my ass and tried to contact said coalition via their website---to no avail. So instead I donated my time to Habitat for Humanity. On a base level this website works and the RRGCC's did not and they missed out on a potential volunteer.

You're right, lateralus. They're are several strong personalities at play here but the wedge only seems to be getting in deeper. Who's to stop it?
