When you are logged in just scroll to the bottom of the message and hit "OK" or whatever it says you lazy bum. Then you won't see it too often.
Yeah, I think that clicking "OK" has a different effect than clicking close [x] at the top. It hasn't popped up for me (other than the small systray notification) since the day it went live.

sure enough, that is so much better. My sanity may even return. Thanks

Thanks for all the work you've put into the guide! At first, I was a little skeptical of the new version, but it has quickly grown on me.

Not that you don't have enough to work on, but I figured I'd go ahead and throw my only suggestion out there: It would be amazing if the guide could show you your redpoint pyramid. I have no idea how it would work, but it would basically show every redpoint you've completed in the past year, with all the climbs categorized in ascending order. I suppose if you wanted to get really complicated, you could set it up so that you could compare one year to another.

Anyway, that's the only thing I can think of that would make the guide better. Also, if that's actually already in the guide, and I just somehow missed it, please do fill me in...

when I do an advanced search it won't let me sort by wall, just by region. It's driving me nuts.

regardless, good job on the new guidebook.

added a link to save/share an advanced search.

all, most recently added routes are there by default. if you don't seem them, go to tools > preferences and you can add them there. as for most recently ticked routes, that's in the "recent sends" widget. let me know if you don't see it..

krampus, made it go away even when you click the "x". also, maps are linked at the bottom of the wall descriptions. i'll work on making that more obvious.

cliftongifford, what browser are you using? and can you send me a link to a search where you're having trouble? seems to be fine for me but i'm on firefox..

trog, are you still having problems with this?

as for the colors and such.. i'm open to suggestions.. but you're really doing to have to work on it. even with a color scheme defined, what to use and where aren't easy and don't come naturally to me. i've tried plenty and, honestly, invested a lot of time in it without feeling like i'm finding a winner. if you want to mock something up, believe me - i'd appreciate it.

as for layout and the like, it could use some work but i can say i've tried to hit all the best practices i could: grid system; large, readable fonts; line spacing and margins; etc.. i'm not a designer by trade.. for me, the layout works pretty well but i'm very open to suggestions/mock ups. i forget who said it before but i will be cutting down on the different fonts/font styles.

as for speed.. i've added some caching features but, honestly, i think it's about as fast as it's going to get. compared to many other sites, i'd say it's pretty fast: about 7s load on t1 compared to 22s for rockclimbing.com and 11s for a non-logged in facebook hit. i think the side navigation and searches help speed you to where you want to go.. there are a couple more things to do but they're not going to gain us more than 0.4s or so. hitting it on a mobile is going to be slower, especially off 3g. as much as i feel your pain (i had 2400bps while my friends were cooking at 56k in the '90s), there's only so much i can do for you with that connection. same goes for those with ie6 - it's time to let the masses enjoy a better experience at the cost of a few.. (but i might have another surprise waiting.. you'll have to wait and see ;) )

still plenty to do.. but we're close. i'm working as hard as i can on this pet project with the energy i have left at the end of the day. thanks for the feedback from all, positive and "constructive" ;) it all helps get it to a better place.. so keep it coming

If I click Quick Routes at the top and select a list to view, some of the links don't work. For instance, if I select Sport>5.10, then when routes appear I can click on the route name and wall and it will take me to the corresponding pages, but if I click on the Region name it tells me an internal error has occurred.

It also looks like if I click the region names to the left, the dropdown displays the wall names, but it might also be nice to link to a page with general region information.

By far my favorite new thing is the Random Route widget. I've read comments and descriptions for routes I never would have looked up on my own. Good stuff.

One thing that is strange, and I'm not really sure if it is even an issue, is the "since last visit" links at the top. It seems like this gets reset when I visit the main site, not the guide. The reason I say it may not be an issue is that you can still click the link and see the last 100, but it seems to always say 0 because I think its keying off the visit to the main site.

Anyone else have trouble printing pages from the guide? maybe it's just my printer, but the tools on the laft shift it so the right doesnt print on the first page. the second one shifts back.
The other thing I keep running into, when I click on the next route to the right or left about the third time it goes to a funky search page that never seems to finish loading, it's in blue font with the route description way at the bottom.

Paul... 2 questions/comments...

It only seems to show the top 150 in the rankings now? Is that intentional?

Also, the advanced search seems to be all sorts of berserk. It never seems to register the grade that you choose, so the search either comes up with no routes, or just a couple of projects. Since I can't do Sharmas project at Drive By, its useless to me.

Thanks. :)

i can't seem to find the maps anywhere.

also, when you click any interactive charts that pull up route lists (ex. the bullets on the route grade chart) there is no way to scroll up/down.

i'm randomly getting the "loading" page as well. usually on route pages, sometimes on wall pages. this is regardless of the browser used.
