As shocking as this may seem, in the far reaches of the universe known as "not the Red" there are different types of situations. I once ran into this exotic weirdness known as granite, and have heard talk of ancient cultures with references to some magic mineral called limestone.

Traces of these legendary locales have been discovered in texts that focus on fantasy worlds (of which there is not known proof) called "not the RRG sandbox."

So, in full disclosure, I have seen no verifiable proof that the chuffbox of the gorge doesn't represent the full breadth of climbing experiences (like the fully documented half life of gear shininess) but the distinct possibility that some areas aren't quite as dirty or sandy and may have different rates of gear shininess decline is out there.

that video kills me. if the first thing i heard after hitting the deck was, "i got that on video, dude! i literally got that on video!" i think i would have to make my own little film of someone getting hurt and post it on voyeurtube.

I watched it several times in a row trying to figure out what the belayer is doing. It looks like his feed hand is holding on above the belay device, but I can't tell what the brake hand is doing. Either way, it's such a slow fall it looks to be a bit staged. I don't know, maybe not.

What are you talking about? Moores wall, pilot mountain and sauratown have plenty of sport climbs. You are probably an extreme north carolina runout trad daddy. And by that I mean, you go out to stone mountain every weekend and take 5 hours to climb a 5.4 slab while trying not to scuff your hard-on on the wall (it pops up every time you hear "carolina climbers coalition.") I bet you would 6 hang your way up to the no hands rest on breakfast burrito and then bail using a full "trad draw" all while spraying about how pathetically protected your home crags are.

you are completely ignorant about NC climbing. i never said that our crags were "pathetically protected". sure some of them are, but many climbs protect very well. and sure we may have a total of 50 sport climbs (ok, maybe somewhat of an understatement) in the whole state, but compared to the untold number of traditional lines it is negligible. i love it when people spray about areas they know nothing about. so sure, assume i am some old NC trad daddy who does nothing but climb 5.4 slabs at stone mountain (i think there are only 2 at the whole wall!). there is no chance i am climbing at spots like the north face of looking glass where there are hardly any sport lines but plenty of hard trad lines.

and don't get me wrong, i love clipping bolts at the RRG, but anyone who says NC is a sport climbing state is a complete dip-shit.

NC is a not a sport or trad state its a bouldering state so shut up chuffers
