I'm with you Shamis. I will continue to just enjoy what routes I choose and continue not to care about the ratings. Those out there hung up with the numbers: please don't choose to insult my choice of climb, with words meant to glorify your efforts while diminishing the efforts of all those that came before you.

I care about ratings, but seeing as how I'm up to 225 pounds now, I have to be content with 5.11 for a while... I'm still waiting for climbing weight classes to come into play

So the top climbers of this generation are the status quo OhW? I don't see how that represents any type of trend at all and it certainly doesn't support your claim.

as for music i know enough to know that 95% of all rap and hip hop acts suck the wazoo to me at least. Sorry drum machines and rhyming got old back in the late 80's, I prefer bands or acts that actually took the time to learn an instrument (sorry charlie guitar hero doesn't count) or singers who learned to sing. So considering my standards for music are likely beyond your comprehension I don't see the point in arguing this...

Guitar Hero most certainly counts.

Lateralus, I'll yield to your expertise in this matter since I have no musical training and rarely listen to anything but hip hop top 40.

Clearly I cannot begin to comprehend anything as complex as a Tool album, for instance.

If you do have musical training and what you say is the truth I pity you, though you seem sarcastic. I'm not going to pretend I know you and yes I did make an assumption on your musical appreciation skills. An assumption I've found usually isn't very far off for most people. I was just joking with you, if you are God's gift to music, more power to you! Doesn't change my opinion that crap/hop is mostly steeming piles of talentless Tools getting rich off other tools who don't know any better. As for the TOOL maybe you get it maybe you don't, it's on my ipod and imo some of the best rock music to be produced in the last 10-20 years. lately though I've been enjoying Michael Hedges, one of the best guitar players ever imo
check him out, if you can get passed your 99 problems.

Yeah, on occasion I've been known to use a bit of sarcasm.

I like to think I've got a decent appreciation for music (my itunes library tells me today I have ~20500 tracks). That said, from what I've seen some of the freshest things happening in music today are in the realms of hip hop, dub, and electronic music. To dismiss those genres because they don't play a guitar seems kinda silly.

I know Michael Hedges, have been a fan for years, but he was a guy with an acoustic guitar. Regardless of how much a badass he was, it ain't too terribly different than the stuff Leo Kottke or Bruce Cockburn are doing. Yes, he was a badass, but hardly innovative.

Tool would be a better example of musical innovation IMO but they've shattered no more boundaries than Outkast, Blackalicious, or People Under the Stairs.

Just my opinion.
