You may note pigsteak that I did not write "stealth", but was showing what one person wrote in a thread on another bill that was passed. I was aware when I posted it what the vote was on the bill.I think it's poor form to have let this one pass. My understanding of it is that a major smackdown may be laid upon anything that the executive branch might find offensive. Don't plan any protests with KBR building a bunch of new detension centers in the country to place you civil disobediant ass in for a little no brainer waterboarding. Don't even think about protesting if the voting machines in your area somehow fail. Some of these bills may be a good thing IF the wording was MUCH more specific and not so open to the whim of whomever is in power.
Do you think the executive branch should have this much power? Do you think checks and balances are a poor idea? Do you believe America is a spot of land between Canada and Mexico, or is it the Constitution and the Bill of Rights? Are you still yawning, Bitch?
Fuck this idea of liberal vs conservative bullshit. Where is the smaller, less intrusive, conservative government?
H.R. 6166 MILITARY COMMISSIONS ACT OF 2006
"Apparently, HE also gave himself some extra power along with this bill... "
your emphasis. was this you or the article? and if this was merely an article to keep us informed, and not leftist propoganda, why the article loaded with terms clearly written to subtlely make people think that W somehow manipulated this vote?
yawning? you bet your hairy ass I am.
and then your loaded questions to bait me. man, those are worst than a yawner..more like a coma. the way you write them, you assume there is only one right answer. very poor taste for a diplomat such as yourself.
for so long people complained that the republicans were following lockstep with W on anything. now it is fashionable for the libs to throw out the "conspiracy" and "he will make you pay" theories to frighten people into voting.
will I be voting against the disgusting record of the republicans the past 4 years? absolutely. but it won't be because of the pathetic attempts by libs to bludgeon everyone in their path.

Positive vibes brah...positive vibes.
Actually, FDR was elected four times. He died during his fourth term. After his death an ammendment was added to the Constitution mandating no more than two terms. Harry Truman was FDR's vice president, and was president when I was born.

What I love about running is you can meditate while running. It's a peaceful place.

The majority power in congress has done pretty much everything HE has asked for without much question. It's almost like He passes the bills himself. Thus my saying that He gave himself some extra power on this new bill. He doesn't have to manipulate a vote - He gets what he wants, especially when it comes to issues of national security. And if he doesn't, there's always a signing statement.
I didn't read through every one of those threads. I assumed "stealth" meant that it had seen no media coverage. I had not heard anything about it. Had you?
Baiting you with questions? Hardly. You are not the prey I'm after. Maybe 'bating. But, they are pretty easy-you can even digress on them to explain why your answer would be different than what you think mine would be. It's ok. Give it a try.
It sound to me that you like you ignore the message just because it was brought to light by a thread from a liberal website. I don't share that prejudice. Short sighted, bad legislation is bad legislation no matter who wrote it, who passed it, or who is shedding light on it. I'm greatful that there are a variety of places to look this kind of stuff up and become a bit more informed.
Getting back to these two laws...It seems to me there are two types of people out there.
- Those that are so scared that they would relinquish what the constitution and bill of rights guarantees for the belief that the government will make them safe and not turn on them.
- Those who believe that the government had the tools to begin with to keep the country safe and would rather not see any erosion of civil liberties.
Peace Piggy.
