I do think that it is interesting how the RRGCC is reviled more than any climbing organization in the country. For this reason, I think that open discussion on how the organization is trying to change is constructive. That is not meant for the RRGCC website. From what I've seen, the RRGCC forum is solely for projecting an image not for open disclosure. That's just my observation.

The RRGCC does good things. Unfortunately, it is compiled of human beings. By nature we are imperfect. There are elements of the coalition I find impossible to work with as a volunteer. There are elements of the coalition that I respect more than anyone else in the climbing community. There are those in the coalition who do not repel climbers. That's a positive thing. There are others who ostracize 1/2 of the community through their repugnant behavior. I view that as a negative.

yawn..old hash again from Sprag..you'd think bygones would be bygones, but instead they follow thru our inability to move forward. we alwasy like to mention we WE felt slighted. How about everyone who is soooo concerned, stepping up to the plate, and offering something of substance. Let me start since I mentioned it.

Third weekend in May, I am offering my labor for anything the RRGGC needs done. Trail work, handing out fliers, drumming up membership, etc....who is with me? If we get enough volunteers, we then approach the Board and offer our services. Anyone care to step up to the plate wiht some committment in mind?

I'm sure there are a lot of things to be done around that time - that's a few weekends before the DerbyFest!

I'm in, though not specifically the third weekend of May; but I'm offering my services for whatever the coalition needs done.

I disagree Sprag. What the RRGCC is trying to avoid on their forum is a bunch of name calling and silly crap that often happen(to which I am not immune to) on this web page. They simple want to keep that forum about getting and discussing information in a mature constructive manner.

ok, i have been told I need to revamp my offer. because of conflicting schedules, I would like to get volunteers in general. once we have a list, we will then set dates. PM me with your name and a contact email, and we'll get started. I have been informed that the RRGCC already has some things in the works, so we will tag along on those projects. Come on folks, let's rally so we can come back here and bitch with substance. Without us, the RRGCC is just a name.

That's a bit of an assumption, actually I'll go so far as to say that's total BS. Many people are actually happy with what the RRGCC has done and will continue to do. Just because some people are a little too self important and disproportiantly vocal considering their tenure with climbing access in the Red it doesn't mean they have a clue. It's pretty tired when you see the gumbies going off incessantly about their opinions and how things should be done but give no credit where it's due for the huge successes we've gained from the RRGCC.

Anyone remember not so long ago when all established routes in DBNF were about to be shut down? If not for the coalition all these crags would have gone the way of pocket wall, probably years before any of these kids even thought about climbing. Silly little bitches without a clue. Be thankful for what you got cause a lot of it is purely because of the RRGCC. Any one of you critics ever climbed in the Southern Region?

Constructive criticism is one thing. Harping on and on in a not so proactive manner is something altogether different.

Sorry, I really don't like to be pissy but this is a nerve that's been touched too many times on this site.

As one of those perpetual mal contents, I will give my unsolicited opinion again. (Thanks, always happy to.)
RRGCC has done incredible things. A land purchase that pales all previous land purchases by grass roots climbing groups in this country. Relations with the NFS have never been better. etc, etc..
What I think is so unfortunate is that squandered opportunities to build a better, more cohesive organization. Where are the membership data bases and why haven't they been used. When was the last time anyone got any communication from "our" RRGCC? How many people use the Red? A shit load, right. Why hasn't this dempgraphic been mined better. What about relations with big groups using the Red, like University groups.
Maybe the RRGCC has built up its endowment to the point that they don't need to raise money. But if they are shoe stringing along, why don't they do something about reaching out to the populace and bring them into the fold?
This is the easiest slam dunk organization to build and instead people who want to belong to something "climbing" get pushed away.
Look to the SCC. They have it figured out.
I know too that the new people (Bill, Tim) are the best thing to happen to the coalition since it began to founder. I know too the Dr. Bob, and Ryan are there trying hard as well.
