truth is, the evidence itself prompted what you call a grassroots movement of concerned scientists. this has been happening for decades. media (and most of the public) has jumped on it in the past, like, 3 years.

What we need is a really nasty virus to take out a major portion of the world population. And the people that are consuming most of the worlds resources and creating the most CO2 is probably the high industrial population centers. An easy fix.

I could not agree more with this statement. It is too bad that such a policy brought out a deep-seated rot in society, namely sexism. Curiously a statistically significant number of people chose the path of sexism over the agony of killing their own young. The societal problem (sexism) is there anyway (in the absence of the one child policy) and has been painfully manifest in many other ways other than full on infanticide for thousands of years. The one child policy is causing Chinese culture to wake up. The acute pain will be short-lived.
-- The natural value of females is now obvious to the Chinese because there are none to mate with in such male heavy society. Being female in China carries more cultural capital than being male due to the demand-supply curve.
-- This is a religion-changing self-correcting societal blunder. There would have been more pain without the one child policy. We owe China big time. They have probably bought us some time in which to think ourselves out of a very bad situation.
