clove hitch works just fine for tying the wife to the bedposts and no need to back it up.

Maybe I forgot to add "without properly backing that knot up" to my statements...
And I said the likelihood of it happening is high, and I meant in relation to the likelihood of an 8 coming untied...

Well shit happens, but the question is what are the statistics? I bet there is more chance of dying in car accident driving to the climbing area then dying from knot failing

I'd like to know how many climbers have been seriouslly injured and killed climbing in the red vs how many have on the drive to and fro.

I don't think any one has been killed climbing at the Red. I could be wrong. I know they have lost a couple rappellers and a drunk tourist about once a year.
I firmly believe my commute to and from work is way more dangerous than even free soloing Cavers.

I am a convert. Water bowline with Yosemite finish is the way to go. Since it is a bowline designed to be able to not come untied from jerking motions (like towing a boat) it is perfect for climbing.
