when I was hiking through the backcountry in JT California I had a similer event happen. I was a day and a half in and had not seen another soul when by chance I crossed paths with another hiker. I said hello how ya doing but I got nothing not even a glare. Some people are just assholes.......or from california

Well I am an Asshole, however I was born here in the bluegrass. I will die here as well.

Naw, I had some good encounters with alot of climbers out there. It was just that one that really kinda blew me away. only person for miles and not so much has a nod.

JT kicks ass though, the scale of everthing seems just awsome to me..

you said hikers, which were they??

i'm not a vagina kramp....that looks funny. i have always tried to look out for other climber's safety, even if they can't. i automatically scan an area and continue to do so the whole day. i'm afraid of heights but am a lesser fan of people F'n themselves up in front of me. the whole belay game is of itself (i can't do much more than say "watch your leg" to someone who doesn't know better). but if i can keep someone from leaving the ground tied in wrong/not doubled back, i'm going to say something. i'd do it for you or anyone; no matter how big of an ass you might be.

I have had mostly good experiences but the bad ones do stick out. Maybe they are more like Blockheads (a pair of humanoid, red-colored figures, who were Gumby's nemeses).

4 This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made earth and heaven.
5 Now no shrub of the field was yet in the earth, and no plant of the field had yet sprouted, for the LORD God had not sent rain upon the earth, and there was no GUMBY to cultivate the ground.
6 But a mist used to rise from the earth and water the whole surface of the ground.
7 Then the LORD God formed a GUMBY of dust from the ground and a little plastic, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the GUMBY became a living being.
8 The LORD God planted a garden toward the east, in Eden; and there He placed the GUMBY whom He had formed.
9 Out of the ground the LORD God caused to grow every tree that is pleasing to the sight and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
so we're all gumbys; kicked out of the garden for fatal, self-absorbed stupidity.
i can count my gumby qualifications every day; just hoping to climb a little harder, neither embarass nor offend none of the all good people i climb with, and someday outgrow my jerrydom and be qualified to wear Prana manpries...

trog: you only get to wear Prana after your immortal soul leaves your inert body. But regarding gumbidom; we all sin and fall short of the glory of Christ Sharma.

a gumby does not recognize that other people might want to climb the route he's on. he will sit at the base and jabber with his friends about how "hard" the climb is and the big "whipper" (3 feet) his buddy took. he will continue to jabber while you tie in, lead a neighboring route while waiting & your partner TRs and cleans that route. at that point he will saftey check his partner and finally be ready to leave the ground. only to pump himself out after passing every rest on route and need a take at the last bolt. where they will continute to talk for the next 10 minutes while he rests. an hour and a half later (not an exaggeration) he will be done with the route and allow someone else the privledge of climbing the best 5.8 in the gorge.
