Because no information was forthcoming about this accident report, I checked through our database of persons who submit release forms for climbing in Muir Valley. Although this accident did NOT occur in the Valley, I remember a group of climbers from Florida visiting here a few days ago. I emailed each of them to see if anyone had any info on this incident.

With any luck, we'll hear something soon.

Artsay, i agree with what you said and no i didn't read the post in question. i was thinking about editing my post to say that i hadn't read it and that i trust the judgement call. i realize you must get lots of flack for all the hard work you put in with little to no recognition. so i'll say it now, thanks for all that work you do. i'll try to remember it into the future.

I wish I had the judgement of Charlie.....while the post did seem a bit over the top, I thought no one would even joke about the kid dying. tasteless, even by pigsteak's standards.

Christian, yer welcum. 8)

I guess it just occurred to me that this poster had already asked 3 times in this thread what had happened so if he knew them he'd of probably said something already. Ultra was clearly from out west and these guys were apparently from Florida so the thing about body checking him at the gym causing a heartattack and death seemed a pretty lame attempt at a joke.

Again, IMNSHO Ultra's a dumbass.

Ah, it sounds like he deserved to get banned. I was just curious what had happened. Thanks for the explanation.

Anyway, I agree with tomdarch that it is also the climber's responsibility to check his belayer before he leaves the ground. It only takes a second to glance over to look if the gri-gri is loaded probably. After the climber is off the ground then it is the belayer's responsibility.

Hope the kid is ok.
