pros tend to go to areas with concentrations of soft or high percentage routes in the upper end of the range which i believe the red has a good amount of. when those folks climb those routes they make videos and take photos. the masses see these and want to go climb at these areas. when i moved out to cali in 05 almost everyone made fun of me for climbing in ky. i begged friends to come check it out in the fall (wow, what a difference a few yrs makes eh). no one would for a few yrs. then the roctrip happened and the photos started popping up. then the videos. now every one of those folks make a trip to the red every yr. i can't tell you how many folks in the gym i'm teaching at tell me they went to choco fact to climb that wkend cuz they wanted to see "sasha's route". funny how she's more strongly associated with the line than the FA (seems like the media may have an influence). alot of these folks climb on the bottom few bolts of PI and are amazed that i've never done the same. the media def has a huge influence on crowds across the ability spectrum because of the attention the harder routes receive.climb2core wrote:Ha ha ha, because clearly the masses are showing up for those soft 14c's and 14d's.
