Snake wariness might be instinctual.

ran accross something similar to this (black rat snake?) at the top of "Psycho Billy Cadillac" @ the stadium. he was spread out sunbathing and very spectacular.

Yeah that's where I got the gray banded kingsnake. I got the boa two months ago off craigslist. Took her to the vet two weeks ago to be dewormed and after the treatment while I was holding her and talking to the vet she bit me! She just a baby so no harm done, didn't even draw blood.

My adult 8 foot Boa died three years ago.

I am not sure. Seems like instinct. I think chimps react the same way to snakes. We are chimps.

They are very fast.

We have both black racers (Coluber constrictor) and black rat snakes (Elaphe obselta). They could look similar. Eastern Coachwhips tend to be more patterned than black racers or adult black rat snakes.

not sure, after looking at pictures of both they are too similar for me to tell the difference. it was pretty big, easily 3 1/2 to 4 ft. long. i wish it had been on the ground so i could have gotten a better look.
