If you had bothered to read what I actually wrote, I was accusing you of covering up the violence and racism at the core of American conservatism. I didn't say that you, personally, were a violent racist. To your credit, I would certainly agree that you have not written anything here that would be called overtly racist.
But what was your reaction to Crank's comment? After a series of his typically semi-non-sensical comments that did bring up race, he then clearly brings up assassination. Sure, you "objected" to something. You didn't object to assassination itself, you objected to someone
talking about it. (Direct quote: "Please don't talk like that") Big difference - and my point.
shhhhh! Let's not speak openly about doing violence to black people ... it's happening all around us, but let's not talk about it .... shhhh!
In my comment about Republican gatherings, I re-cast your words as a similar sort of "objection" to overt racism, in
contrast to agreement with overt racism.
The implication in the texts is not that you, yourself are actively racist - you read that into my statements yourself. Your problem, not mine.
To bring this back to American politics in general, just as there's no avoiding the fact that that the "war on drugs" is based in racism, and the so-called "war on terrorism" is also. There is no war on the remaining IRA terrorists, there is no war on the KKK terrorists, there is no war on the Christian Identity terrorists - only a war on Arab and other "non-white" Muslim militants. (Don't waste time bringing up Richard Reed or other such, thankfully rare buffons.) We all know that there are essentially no "white" people in Gitmo or in the CIA black sites or handed over to middle eastern regimes for torture. The US never would have invaded a "white" country (and bungled the occupation) in the way they did "non-white" Iraq. The current US military wouldn't treat "white" prisoners the way they did the people in Abu Ghraib, and if they did, heads would have rolled higher up the chain of command. The American people wouldn't stand for the semi-colonization of Iraq that's happening right now if it was populated by "white" people.
Does supporting these screwed up policies make someone an overt racist? Perhaps not. But supporting this sort of indirect violent racism is a problem. Ignoring or trying to be silent about the same violent racism is also a problem.
Well Fuck You you goddamned piece of crap.
I can't decide how to wrap up:
1) You are a credit to your cause, sir.
2) Thanks for making my point about violence underlying conservatism.
or...
3) Do you really wonder why people think you're a Bill O'Reilly fan?
