Yeah, good judgement and gut feelings. I've often averted danger just because I had a funny feeling about the crazy shit some car was about to pull. Never assume your seen..

And red light runners beware- I was riding downtown one night with my friend when we approached a red light at rose/main. We rode up in the bike lane and I slowed to a stop and notice johnny law two cars back. My buddy blows through the light and gets popped like that. Ends up getting hauled off to jail for an unpaid ticket in Franklin County. I had to tow the bike home. So don't think you're immune to the shit, just make sure they're not watching.

Make sure they're not watching? Unless there is no, and I mean no traffic anywhere in sight, going through red lights while cars have to stop is one of the reasons drivers hate cyclists. Do us all a favor and stop at red lights or don't ride in traffic.

Ease up man, I was the one advocating responsible cycling if you read the previous page. I was just making the point that you can and will be pulled over for not obeying the law- its more than a common courtesy to drivers. And I guarantee that I see more people running red lights in their cars than I do on bikes- according to that pesky mass X velocity rule thats just way more dangerous. Where's the big crackdown on that bullshit?

I always enjoy all the cyclist vs. driver rhetoric as if people on bikes don't own cars and people that drive never ride bikes (more common I guess). Everyone just needs to give and take a bit- people in cars get so pissed like their not going to pass the panting sweaty sap when the light turns green, and people on bikes are busy acting like they're che guevara on two wheels. It's worse than the hillbillies vs. buckeyes crap.

Looks like wanton endangermment to me. Do they train cops how to safely take down a cyclist? I think not.

The cop claimed the cyclist tried to run him down but it is clear the cyclist was trying to avoid hitting him and the cop struck the guy from the side...hard enough to knock him clean off the bike.

I would have faced the same charges as the cyclist had that been me...resisting, assaulting a police officer, etc. That was a blatant abuse of power.

Damn thats harsh son! No wonder I quit attending critical mass. I think the problem is that when a bunch of over-hyped bike riding posers start being obnoxious and bending laws the police feel like they have a right to do the same. The guy who got tackled might have been totally innocent but I can guarantee there were others who weren't. Critical mass rides always seem to bring the assholes out of the woodwork- spouting off like some bike revolutionary when their chain is about to rust off their piece of shit Huffy. Motherfuckers think they're Captain Planet cause they pedal a bike around now and again but it really don't mean shit- if you really want to save the Earth just kill yourself- no more consumption, no more waste. Don't get me wrong, I love riding bikes and hating police, and will not hesitate to retaliate against moronic drivers but I really believe positivity and reciprocity to be the key to harmonious relations on the roadways. Unfortunately, events like these just add fuel to the fire- I guess ya just have to ride fast enough to leave all the puppets in the dust 8)

I hate cops but I wouldn't be suprised if that guy was singled out for a crime he did commit or had a warrant out on him or something
