Zenning out is easy while climbing, which I find to be a very desirable trait of the activity.

It's a rush, it's fun, it's cool. But it's definitely NOT a waste of time.

I have been thinking about this question and the conclusion that I came up with is a mixture of what a lot of people have already said. I enjoy the accomplishment of sending a route that I have been working on for a while, I enjoy them physical movements that come with climbing hard routes, I like that my head is clear of anything else except for me and the rocks, I like that people celebrate with you when you do well and empathize with you when you suck that day , I like the friendships and interesting people that you meet when you climb in new places. Climbing is just plain fun! :D

It's a waste of time. It all is. not just climbing, all of it.

exactly, Zenning is easier climbing, but attainable elsewhere. it's easier, (and more often) obtained while bouldering. maybe that's why all those fags prefer bouldering to ropes.

insted of people talking about why, maybe they just should.

So the question begs...

What keeps you from sticking a pin in your eye and taking the long walk off the short pier?

New thread?

i'm still around because it's more fun to piss off the majority then just a small few. i'm just saying that justifying our waste of time, saying it's better than other peoples waste of time is lame. eat doughnuts and watch t.v. or go climb. both are a waste.

its too bad you see it as a waste of time, what a pitty, that must suck for you. I knew someone who just died on Tues that would have loved to be able to waste his time climbing again. live in the moment and be happy you have some way to "waste your time".

Sorry to be so serious...
