yah, oxford is possibly the least car friendly town in england after London. london has a rather steep tax on driving, but oxford is a bizzare maze of narrow medieval streets and walkways. not only is a bike more eco-friendly and economical, but it's simply more practical. a taxi from the city center to my house takes longer than my bike. the bus down the hill to the university takes 20 minutes in the morning due to construction, congestion and stops. my bike takes 5-10. even commuters just drive the the edge of the city, park their car at the park-and-ride then bike to town. i'm trying to get better at biking to the point of biking anywhere less than 25 miles as most of this area is pancake flat.

<rant>
seperate transport rant, england just passed on of the dumbest "enviornmental" regualtions of all time. they more than doubled the taxes on airline tickets. international departures went from $15ish to $40ish, returns went from 5-10 to $20. that means on my $7 discount ticket to prague i'll pay close to $60 in taxes. yet on on $1000 first class tickets the tax is still the same, it has no corellation to the price of the ticket, so basicly people looking to fly on the cheap (students, climbers, backpackers, etc) get f***ed while it has almost no effect on the vast majority of flyers paying already high prices.

yah, britian's just grey. can't believe i passed on an $60 ticket to the costa blanca this weekend. 75 degree sport climbing, i am a fool. i heard through the grape vine that this weekend would be warm in the gorge, any cool climbing plans for anyone?

hopefully i'll get motivated to post this last weekend's climbing adventure to the aptly named "gower" peninnsula. made the rookie mistake of deciding in didn't need my down jacket for a febuary day on the welsh coast. i was wrong.
