If all immigrants are somehow legalized (brought into legal compliance and documented) so that the option of employers to hire cheaper undocumented workers was taken away, would that level the playing field for you? Wouldn't you and your competitors being vying for the same pool of workers who would be demanding equal pay?
Sure. Just for that being flooded with an unnatural glut of competition thing. Also for those pocket ecconomist/capitalists out there, Where's my supply and demand? Why couldn't I experience the rush (and windfall) of a market flush with eager customers and the hard earned profits that come from my decades of training and knowledge? Why did you... decide to import cheaper ( and outside the law. lol!!)help... to keep the price of my product lower for you?
lol !!!! What a stupid fucking question I just asked.
How in the world can this get better? make me feel bad for not singing "We are the world,,we are the children...." anybodyt want to adopt my ass?

I'm not so worried about immigrants with a work ethic. However, I am worried about the continual system abuse my native born white trash neighbors.

This is an interesting debate, and is full of complex issues
Where's my supply and demand?
This is actually more or less your problem the availability of cheaper labor keeps final prices artificially lower which allows more consumers to buy these goods. This results in a bigger market for new construction homes. If a shock is introduced into this system i.e. higher wage rates via the disappearance of cheap labor then the demand for finished goods would fall because consumers can no longer afford the higher sq. ft. price of a new home. Consumers are further hit by the increased wage rate with there grocery bill. Low skilled workers would then earn a little more on average (best estimates are between 2% - 3% more) at the cost to the rest of the consumers.

I by no means advocating "illegal" immigration, only pointing out the gains from access to Mexico’s greatest commodity and export . . . cheap labor. Immigration has played an important role in the economic growth experienced in this country. Most legal immigrants fit into a bi-model distribution clustering around high skilled labor and low skilled labor with a large tail. Thus, the average middle class American only experiences the impact of immigration through their pocket book.

a couple key points: immigration can be an important component in growth and is not a bad evil thing, don't drop out of high school the returns to education are way to high at this point and consider college. The estimated benefits from immigrants out way the estimated cost. If you are worried about the cost pushed onto the social welfare systems you should really focus your attention on those quasi-natives who abuse it. We don't get cheaper tomatoes and greater access to new housing from them.

I really feel for the people like gulliver who are stuck between a rock and a hard place. My suggestion would be to enforce and place heavy finds on business’s who employ illegal labor and encourage a legal immigrant labor force. Most estimates suggest that 1 in 4 illegal immigrants return to their native country. I feel that to often in this healthy debate that the clevage between immigrant and illegal is overlooked or exacerbated

when in doubt make a sport out of it, YOU CAN NOW SHOOT ILLEGALS INVADING THE USA, Dick Cheney can return to the American west and shoot people. Hell there is a good chance they will be raped, robbed or murdered in the middle of the Arizona desert anyhoo, with guide fees and lodging these bastards could have real and Documented boost to the US economy, I wonder if it will have any effect on law enforcement shakedowns of US citizens inside Mexico?

I am hesitant to enter one of these political debates again on a CLIMBING website but here I go.

I agree that something should be done about the open border with mexico; however, if it weren't for the illegal immigrants working like dogs to help rebuild Katrina land, we (those of us living in this hellhole) would be in a world of shit. These hard working men stand outside of every hardware store around looking for work daily. Where are our fellow American's work ethic?

EVERY store here is BEGGING for employees, Burger King in N.O. even offered a $5,000 sign on bonus at one time! Employers are desperate, but our lazy fellow Americans would rather collect unemployment and sit on their asses than flip burgers for 8.00/hour.

My step-father worked for GM in MI which is getting ready to file for bankruptcy, why? Because the unions have destroyed GM they demand high wages for their members who will not work a proper days work. As is the trend, they are moving their plants to other countries.

We have become a bunch of spoiled, lazy shits who expect everything to be handed to us on a silver platter and thinkwe are too good for low paying jobs. And our government rewards this behavior by paying welfare, unemployment . . . often paying more than low paying jobs would; thereby encouraging people to stay on government assistance rather than get a job. Why take a paycut to work at McDonalds when I can stay home and do nothing?

Kick out the Mexicans up there if you wish, but PLEASE leave them down here in MS and LA. If you send them out of here it will take us 10 years to rebuild instead of 5!
