This is hardly a timely post, but if you want a very sweet red wine that's actually wine and not Boone's Farm, you should try a port. They tend to be very sweet, even kool-aid like, but be careful not to let the deceptively high alcohol content sneak up on you.

lambrusco wine is a cheap wine and tastes like grape juice. not quite koolaid - but you could give it a try. it certainly won't break the bank if you don't like it!

I, too, am not a wine fan. Especially reds (I much prefer beer). However, I have found a nice shiraz or chianti rather agreeable. Stay away from merlots.

Become a wine fan. Go near merlots, cause there are some very good ones at descent prices. My favorite now is Chilean, from Casa Lapostolle, very good. The Cuvee Alexandre
version of that is even better for a few extra bucks. Should be easy to find. Uraguayan wineries have some good stuff too.

It's just grape juice gone bad.

Hey! For folks looking for "wine as Kool-Aid with alcohol", check this out:

http://www.wineloverspage.com/wines/tn.phtml?id=565

The guy at Sam's Wine (a wine megastore in Chicago) suggested this as an under $10 pick. I was going to have it with dinner tonight, but I don't think it will go so well with the mushroom/polenta/gorgonzola thing I'm making....

(Oh, yeah - don't get all freaked out by the reputation of rose wine as sweet crap. The 'real thing' from the south of France is high quality wine, and while it tends to have a lot of fruit flavors, it generally isn't sweet at all.)
