um, paul, I didn't say that the poor were all black. I was naming a specific category of persons. "poor blacks."

did you happen to miss the head of the NAACP say Bush was a racist because he intentionally didn't help the poor blacks escape this tragedy? watch the news my friend. the overwhelming majority of those affected were poor blacks.

it would have been better if they were pulling a corpse from the waters....

I wonder if all the liberals have simmered down after claiming that Bush killed "thousands" in New Orleans....it made for sensational rage, but turning out to be little substance. typical.

Seems to me that if the CEO of a corporation and the guys that he selected for the "mission critical" task of the company failed miserably, that they would accept responsibility and resign.

Strangely, under Clinton, FEMA had it's act together during several floods, earthquakes and hurricanes - they certainly weren't perfect, but they didn't leave people to die for days. During the lesser hurricaines that hit Florida in the lead up to the '04 election, this administration 'over responded' with window dressing - they used FEMA as an extension of the campaign.

But during this event, an actual test of their ability to do their jobs, FEMA failed miserably - local officials the the National Guard had to actively circumvent the administration's people in order to go out and rescue people or deliver food and water. This president is responsible for having "Brownie" in charge of FEMA and the operation - a guy whose resume highlight is that he was a high-up in a horsey club (and was forced to resign that post). The head of FEMA is an amazingly important post (so important that the Clinton administration made it a Cabinet position).

Take away: FEMA failed because of pitiful management - more people died than should have because of the failures - that pitiful management was by dimwitted individuals who couldn't hack the responsibilites - those fools include Brown and Bush.

tomdarch...just how many of the cities Clinton saved were surrounded by levees holding water in?

The way I understand it, local and state politicians insisted on being in charge, and the latest number I heard is the La. is 80% Democrats in office (can't quote you a source on that one). I am with you, FEMA failed miserably. But that blame also lays on the heads of all elected officials, from the mayor of New Orleans to the governor (both Dems) to FEMA and Bush. I would say Brown , the mayor and the governor should resign. You agree?
