Those of us in Lexington can't be gym climbers at all - except for the luck few who have their own gym.....

Well, you could be tower climbers, but I can make it up all the routes, soooo...........boring!
What I love about running is you can meditate while running. It's a peaceful place.

Regardless of all the other factors....seems to me if there is no *rock* involved....then I dont see how someone can be a *rock* climber.

I can just see it now.

A bunch of 8 year olds come running into a climbing gym, all excited about trying something new. Several are a little scared but not about to express it in front of their friends. One of these excited tots shouts that they can't wait to go "rock climbing". A true "rock climber" hears him and quickly corrects him by saying something smart like "You little dip-s_ _ t! This isn't rock climbing, you're not a rock climber because you aren't good enough" or "haven't climbed hard enough" or "long enough" or "have the right gear" or "smell bad enough" or "look cool enough" or "eaten pizza at Miguels" or "taken a 30' whipper" or "eaten out of a dumpster" or "had your car broken into at the lode" or "climbed in an area that's designated as being closed" or "blown a piece of pro" or "been decked" or "attended Rocktoberfest" or "climbed in at least 4 different classic climbing areas" or "taken a month long road trip" or "set a route" or "posted at least 413 times on RRC" or "have at least one FA" or "you're having a birthday party at MY gym and it annoys me".

I cracks me up how people can get so worked up over semantics.

Gee, I guess this argument can be extended to just about everything.

Is sailing on the river really sailing because you are not on the open water?

Is diving in a quarry really scuba diving because you are not diving in the Keys?

Is rappelling off the New River bridge really rappelling because you are not on a cliff?

I guess I better get back to work! Or is it really work since I sit at a desk most of the day.

Have a good life.

Rock Climber....

Rock + Climber = Rock Climber

this doesnt seem to be that complicated. Without rock...there is no rock climbing and thus no rock climber.

lets subtract rock from the above equation....

Rock + Climber - Rock = Climber

Now defining a *real climber* is subjective and is a whole other discussion as pigsteak has already pointed out.

It could save or fry your ass in a lawsuit. Semantics matter!
