Do any of you guys know who we can go to to rent a canopy/tent for the staging area on trail day? Or does anybody have one or two that we can use?
Oh and btw, in addition to bringing any tools/equipment you guys already have, please also remember to bring along a couple of lawn/lounge chairs that you can relax on during dinner around the campfire.

Please note a significant change in the location for the Gathering Trail Day on September 18 and 19.
The unusually heavy rains over the past summer have prevented the completion of the access road along the floor of Muir Valley. So, the staging area, camping area and evening entertainment for the Gathering will take place in the meadow above the Valley and adjacent to the graveled parking lot with the kiosk sign. It is being mowed and improved and should be in nice shape by the event weekend.
In many respects, this will be a better location. Refer to the maps on
www.muirvalley.com for instructions. There will also be signs out on 715 and 2016.
This is surely an event you don't want to miss. 'Work' on Saturday, food and bluegrass music Saturday night, and climb on Sunday.

We are watching Huricane Evan Closely. There is a high probability that it will dump a lot of rain on Eastern Kentucky at the end of next week just before the Gathering Trail Day. If rain continues into Saturday, then Sunday will be the rain day. We are still planning to have the barbecue and music Saturday night, regardless of the weather. There should be enough tents to provide cover.
The good news is that rain softened ground is a lot easier to work.
Other good news -- there will be a lot of nice "door prizes" thanks to the generosity of Josh Thurston of Hoosier Heights Climbing Gym, several gear manufacturers, and donations by private individuals.
We will post weather updates as more information becomes available.

Gathering Trail Day Update:
Tuesday morning.
The party is ON for Saturday night, despite Ivan's possible wrath. It may be under tents (thanks to a couple Wolfe County mortuaries.) There will be ham and chicken on the barbecue, a big caldron of beans on the campfire, and plenty of food and drink. Each attendee will get a tee shirt and a chance at gear door prizes. The Glenn Duff's High Falls Troubadors will provide live bluegrass music.
It now looks like the poor old Red might get inundated with more hurricane rain this week after 6.5 inches last week. The forecast calls for 50% chance Thursday through Sunday.
So, we may be completely rained out, even through Sunday, which is the "rain" date. If that is the case, our experienced trail builders will present a trail building tutorial Saturday under the tent. Then, if we don't have dry weather this weekend, persons who want to help build trails can voluteer some of their time in the future when things dry out. The location and direction of the new switchback trails are marked with red flags and ribbons. You can work on them as your schedules and the weather permits.
Again, the Saturday night activities are a "go."
We will meet Saturday morning at the upper parking lot about 8 pm. Please bring any dirt digging tools you may have, such as shovels, mattocks, hoes, etc. If Sat. is a washout, we'll try again on Sunday. If that is also rained out, then at least Sat night is on.
