Sorry, Anti - I went to edit and deleted the post.
KD - There wasn't one condescending word in Captain's post. He clarified a statement and then ended on a positive note by discussing what the RRGCC has done.
We can't wave a wand and give everyone what they want, and we're definitely not a for-profit business who's striving to meet customer demands so we don't lose your business. We're merely 9 people who VOLUNTEERED to represent this climbing community and as stated before, we're with many flaws. Why? Because we're busy people with real lives.
And we're working to fix flaws and make this a genuine community. We heard you when you said that the RRGCC was too inclusive so Bob opened Torrent and we're now holding public-invited meetings. We're heard you when you said volunteering for the RRGCC was a miserable experienced. Enter Josie. Need I say more?
Is the RRGCC Making the Grade?
ok first, i don't know jack about public policy, but one other thing that bothers me is why there needs to be a policy debate that goes on for something like 15 years with access and so forth on wilderness or state or federal lands. i know its not the rrgcc's fault, and so maybe it shouldn't be their/our problem...Bill mentioned the work the Access Fund's leaders do in Washington..and maybe
at the state level too-this whole process needs some sunshine and clarity. and yeah, i still don't get
Charmanes' claims to restrict access...is there anything in writing? or is it incomprehensible legalese?

well stated all - while only several have had 100 percent on the NCLB exam most have passed with at least a double digit iq
. Individual results will be mailed to examinees as soon as they are calculated. Anti- your essay exam has passed our standards examiners and your degree is in the mail.
Please remember to purchase our NCLB Study Guides for $50 donation to the RRGCC

So with the BOD. There's no direct election of members. There's no one person on that board that was elected. They were all appointed by The Pres. Right? the Pres. was handed down by God. So the Climbing Publick in general has no say and is not privey to the machinations that go on behind closed doors, right? Is there any way that the General Climbig Publick has any official say in the dispensation of knowledge/funds/direction/presentation/REPRESENTATION?
My understanding of how and why is that the RRGCC was fomented by SSS, seeing a gap, lickety-split, went to Joy Malone and formed a group.
She apointed a board and those un-elected positions have been handed down. It seems to me that all that you had to do to be on the board was to have been in the parking lot back in '96.
I for one don't appreciate the olagarchy. I don't appreciate closed meetings. I don't appreciate being spoken for when I don't know whats at stake. The RRGcc says it speaks for me in parlayence with the DBNF. Maybe, maybe not. I don't know because I've never been to a board meeting. I've never posted a ballot in a direct election for a board member that I felt represented the way I think or the direction that I thought would be the way to go. I feel under-represented.
By the way. Good job so far with the S.R. I hope we can make the rent in an economic down-turn. I gave you a C-....but that grade means alot to me as it got me through high school!

clevis, I promise you with my life if you want to plug in and help or take a board position, you will gladly be inititiated. I will never, ever serve in an official position with the RRGCC because of this sort of thankless crap.
people, quit making it so personal. the RRGCC isn't out to get you. they aren't out to close your favorite crag. they aren't trying to stifle your freedom to bolt/fix/maintain any route you want. I've plugged a few bolts in the SR, and have never received cash or donations from them for my new routes. Last I checked, I have put around 300 plus bolts in the SR alone, at my expense. (and some other very cool climbers who have donated money) Why? Mainly for selfish reasons of the ego, but a small part of me sees the vision of the RRGCC, and I want to volunteer my time and money in ways I can feel good about. Just find out how you can personally help out, and go do it.
I can't even name the current board memebers, but I promise an email or phone call asking for info or to help out in anyway will be welcomed from any and all.
and for real, thank you to our board for taking on a thankless job.

Positive vibes brah...positive vibes.
Right on pigsteak, they're busting ass for free doing a pretty tedious but necessary job, the least people could do is appreciate that--if not donate their time and money too. Trash talking on a forum is no way to say thanks for a job well done.
In any case--I agree, thanks to board for taking on this task and keeping so many crags open in the Red!

My top 4 priorities for 2010 would be:
- Have at least 4 RRGCC BOD meetings OPEN to the public in 2010. Have them PUBLISHED 1 month prior to the meeting. Have the agenda/topics discussed/pertinent things decided PUBLISHED on rrgcc.org within 1 week so that those who could not be present have an idea of the direction the RRGCC is going.
- Increase communication via. regularly published newsletters and updates to rrgcc.org about events, contests, etc. that affect the community.
- Increase the number of trail days from 3 (in 2009) to 6 (in 2010).
- Get the R'fest website up by march. Registration open by June
sorry - i couldn't just limit it to 3
KD - i'm sorry you had a bad experience volunteering for the RRGCC. i'm currently the one handling the volunteer department. could you (AND ANYONE ELSE WHO'S HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE) pls PM me and let me know (1) what happened & (2) what could I do to make things better in the future.
fact of the matter is, the RRGCC wouldn't exist without it's volunteers. and it takes every single one of us to volunteer time/money/resources to continually work to keep climbing open. i've got lots to learn in this dept so please let me know what i can do to make things better in the future.

Excellent post, couldn't have said it better myself. I second each of those suggestions.Josephine wrote:My top 4 priorities for 2010 would be:

I don't get it.
I was in J.T. a few years back and I had a Rocktoberfest t-shirt on. This cat comes up to me in a parking lot at the rangers station and begins to ask about rocktoberfest, where, when, etc. When I explained the RRGCC to him he was flat blown away (his words) that we had such a functional and aware community of climbers that we actually set up a coalition. He assured me he would make it to the red the next year (who knows if he did, have you been to rocktoberfest lately? too many people to count!!)
That experience alone (not to mention all the trails, lands, rock, and festivals) made me appreciate the RRGCC in a whole new light. It was then I decided I would get involved any way I could. I have found this to be EASY!! I offered my help and they have graciously accepted on several occasions. If you want to be involved it isn't rocket science.
