noooo, 5.7 rocks says you are a wanker who is pretending to climb with your college drinking buddies....5.7 rocks says "look at me..I suck."...5.7 rocks may occasionally get you laid by that first time climber chick who doesn't know better.....
Thank you krampus, you've got the idea. 5.7 doesn't mean you are a 'pretender'; that just confirms the elitism that is seen in so many upper level climbers. Only since the inception of the 5.14 sport/comp era, have I experienced this attitude, especially among those much younger than me. I still live in the climbing world where we all appreciate each other for what they care to do; where we all just enjoy the events of our lives without endless spray or name calling. Age or difficulty, sport or trad' doesn't matter, it's all about the experience and contact with the rocks.

running a marathon, is really not that big of a deal. just alot of persistence and many summer miles. now, finishing in the top of your age group, qualifying for boston, running sub 3 hours, these are definers....I have done none of those, but I would never go around like completing a marathon is some big deal.

shoot, have you seen some of the folks who complete these marathons? you'd think they couldn't get off the couch, but there they are, finishing.

it doesn't make any one an elitist, just a realist.

completing a marthon is like climbing 5.12...attainable for anyone who really tries.
" however, unlike you, I don't consider my accomplishments anything to write home about."

I don't recall bragging about anything I have done, at any point...

"running a marathon, is really not that big of a deal."

Diminishing someone's accomplishments or just dismissing them outright reeks of elitism. Nobody but me has any idea what I have gone through to do what I have done or want to do, so to instantly dismiss it simply because it's easy for one person or a group of people to do is not only presumptuous, it borders on boorish and churlish..

I'm not saying you can't say what you want. Feel free to comment, classify, dismiss, minimize, sandbag, etc. someone else's accomplishments all you want; I'm just saying in the majority of the cases, you're making assumptions about what they have done, undergone and/or accomplished; all based on a sticker on their trunk that says "26.2".

Walk/run/push a wheelchair a mile, or 26.2, in someone else's shoes, and then...

What fuckin rock were you hiding under?? Jesus, you sound more like an idiot with every new post. What about Robbins chopping Harding's bolts on El Cap, just because he thought his way was better? Was the Valley not in two separate camps? What about Bachar threatening Kauk and then getting sent to the hospital from a punch to the throat... all over a route? For that matter, what about Bachar and his MANY egotistical acts? Waiting in the bushes so he can burn people off on Midnight Lightning? Posting a reward for anyone who could follow him for a day? And do you think it started there? Fuck no. Not a chance. It started when the first two fuckin indians or cavemen or whoever tried to one up each other's prowess in climbing up a cliff.
Dude, I'm all for your happy go lucky, unrealistic world. Fact is though, it isn't, and never has been, that way. Everybody would climb 5.7 like you if there were no competition. We'd all be soft, fat, and lazy, and make excuses just like you. Next time you open your mouth, at least have a fuckin clue what you're saying.

Geez, lighten up Francis! So I didn't want to drag up, include all those past incidents; I wasn't posting here to rewrite history. You want to continue living and climbing with your hostilities and shit, well that's your problem.
This all started out about a sticker, and ways to promote and help the PMRP. You jumped all over the 5.7' issue, and I chose to defend and respect the basic climber. Sad it has to be all about numbers and elitism once again, so check your fukN mouth and get a clue about life, dude.

Piggy, rare is the statement you make I completely agree with...

Ok.

A. I didn't weigh in on this retarded idea until just now, so before you blame me for having "jumped all over the 5.7 issue", please recheck the posts.

B. If you didn't want to "drag up past incidents" or "rewrite history", then don't. When you said that the elitism began with the comp/5.14 era, you were rewriting history.

C. Its not at all about numbers and elitism until you spout off the ridiculous idea that it is. Its about having a clue what you're talking about versus just sprayin bullshit, which incidentally, is what you do.

D. If you chose to actually defend and respect the "basic" climber, you wouldn't have sprayed your false bullshit. All that did, assuming you are the representative of the "basic" climber, was make the "basic" climber look like a complete idiot, with no knowledge of the history of this sport.

E. If you knew half of what you pretend to, or climbed half as much as you claim, you'd have a clue... but you don't. Next time you decide to state your opinion as a fact, be prepared to back it up with more than just "get a clue about life, dude".

I can loan you some books if you want.

Whew, that's alot to handle. I support anyone who love to climb and hates the bs that is being fed to them once again in this 'new age. I lived through the '5.11 is cool and you're not' era of 70's and this is just the latest session of braggards who seek fame and continue to bully the lesser climber in the name of 'competiton. Happily, I've enjoyed my climbing life as is. Oh by the way, on point E, just recheck any posts anywhere, and you'll find no routes, no claims, no falsehoods anywhere here or on the net' about my 'conquests. I don't post first ascents or a tic list. I just don't get into that. Go ahead, say what you want about me having no routes to boast about, it's not my style. All I did here was tell about a fall taken long ago, because someone else posted the topic.
