rhunt, i'd like to weigh in and say that your list is hysterical! i will respond to the poll by saying i am a sport climber who does not climb in a helmet-not because it's uncool or whatever, but simply because that's how i started, and i've never tried one on that fit properly and did not flop down in my eyes.
i think you pointing out that usually gumbies are the ones wearing helmets when sport climbing is pretty accurate, safety aside or not. i could see the argument with wearing a helmet while belaying, since that's where the rock falls when it breaks. however, USUALLY a seasoned sport climber will be okay without a helmet while climbing. one might say, "what about if you flip yourself?" well, guess what? a gumby is way more likely to flip him/her self. only in EXTREME circumstances is a flip not directly caused by the climber (and i mean really freak occurrences). beyond that, i don't see why a helmet would be necessary for the climber, unless you are doing multisport with people above you, or you think the cliff is going to fall down on your head.
