EF 16-35 f/2.8L USM

next "major" purchase will be a solid tripod (Gitzo?). after that, i'll be saving up for a while for the 70-200 f/2.8 (IS or no?)

...i should probably take a photography class sometime...

asfor the 30D, it's working out great! none of the photos i just posted had post-processing, except for a couple crops. exposure of the flags was done with spot metering...gotta love it.

Here are some pictures from our Fourth of July weekend....we were just outside of St George Utah....

The first couple pictures are of the wicked fires that were ragin over the week/weekend/and are still continuing, our tent was covered in ash Sunday morning....the plane was dumping that red slurry on the fires to keep them from getting the nearby houses...

Here are the dogs at this "lake" they call it that, we tend to call it a pond...but it's a nice oasis in the desert! There is an actual volcano nearby...we take the dogs there during the heat of the day because they are not allowed in the area we go climbing at...so they stay in a fenced in dog run thing and we take them swimmin during the day, they love it!

Spike seems to have developed a bit of a problem, but Joe is happy to have a drinking buddy....funny enough, Spike will NOT drink Utah's 3.2 beer...he seems to know there is less alcohol in it or something...

When it gets a little tooooo hot for him, Spike will do anything to cool his paws off, including this dip in a bucket...

And Joe wanted to say "HAPPY FOURTH!!!" To everyone back home, he misses ya and says: "COME ON OUT AND SEE more of ME!!!"

Hmmm! I didn't get to see that side of Joe last week!

I can't believe those fires are still so huge! The GC was so smoky! Still amazing, but the view was so hazy!
What I love about running is you can meditate while running. It's a peaceful place.

Go for it! I've got Gitzo legs and a Miller head that I use for work (video) that are gettin on 16 years old and they still work great. You can bang up Gitzo legs, they can take the use and abuse. No matter what sort rig you end up with buy a tripod with a head you can bubble balance. Might be a little more pricy but well worth it for ease of use.
I see they are still lopping off mountains in Eastern Kentucky. Electricity isn't cheap.

i've been eyeing the Gitzo 1228. solid, light carbon fiber, and compacts down pretty well. add a good ball head with Really Right Stuff quick release plates and a hot shoe bubble-level and i'm set.

'course it doesn't come cheap and i think i've spent enough on camera equipment in the last month that i really should hold off for a little bit.

okay, another photoassault.

will likely have more after the 4th. my 4th of July plans? catch the parade in my hometown in the morning. early afternoon hit up the hot air balloon festival (http://www.lisleballoons.com/). late afternoon or early evening migrate to Ribfest (http://ribfest.net/) for entertainment and dinner. late evening head back into the city for some fireworks.

on second thought, seeing how the photos, combined, take up over 4MB...i think i'll be kind to any dial-up users and link to a separate page instead.
