512OW, most of the aid lines are for gumbies???? that is about the fuckin dumbest thing i have ever read!!! i have never meet a gumby that climbed el cap. you need way more knowledge to aid climb any line on el cap then you do to climb 5.14's.
almost any gym rat can climb 5.12 and still not know how to tie their own knots. free climbing takes NO knowledge of anything...
maybe try pulling on some shitty gear 2000 feet up and tell me how bored you are..... but i dont plan on ever seeing you up there... but i did play on your fun 25 ft TR route today....
El Cap
Well, if climbing below a certain grade as a sport climber makes you a "gumby", then why shouldn't climbing below a certain grade as an aid climber make you a "gumby"?
You're comparing apples to oranges.
All "trade" routes are basically gumby aid routes.
Or, if a route has been free climbed.... are you a gumby for having to aid it? Some would say so...

I was actually meaning quite the opposite about the grade thing... i ment you have to have more climbing knowledge to aid climb then you do free climb.... grades really dont mean shit about your knowledge and knowledge is what is the differents from gumby and not...
there are not that many trade routes, maybe 15ish... compaired to the 100ish routes that go up el cap... i would still say no gumby has done a trade route (maybe guided up)
no you are not a gumby if you have to aid a free line.... if you cant do 15a's does that make you a gumby.... according to you we are all gumbies besided the one best climber in the world (who ever that is....)

Huh?
I never said anything like that. Like I said though, you're comparing apples to oranges.
If we try it your way... walking takes less knowledge than climbing. So a 5.6 hangdogger is obviously more knowledgeable than a mall walker. I guess the 5.6 hangdogger is not a gumby, but an expert.
Frankly man, you're giving aid climbing way too much credit. Hard aid climbers are badasses... but no more than any hard person at their respective sport. A1 is easy. A2 is easy. Gumby easy. Having the "knowledge" doesn't mean you can do A5.
Having "knowledge" doesn't mean you escape gumby status either...

aid climbing is all about knowing how to place gear and having the balls to get up on it... if you can do that you can do A5...
so what is the grade you must reach to be not a gumby??? did any body that climbed back the day they did not get past 5.10, are they gumbies???
also, i have know idea why you keep talking about fruit??? this is holloween we should be talking about candy... oh wait we should be out getting fucked up and not talking about aid climbing... So i must leave you and we will chat tomarrow... have a good night, FO SHIZZLE MY WHITE NIZZLE!

Really? Is that all it takes?ynp1 wrote:aid climbing is all about knowing how to place gear and having the balls to get up on it... if you can do that you can do A5...
I bet most aid climbers would disagree.
Do you have any idea what you're talking about?

ynp1, you obviously know your shit. Definitly more than I. So I wouldn't call you a gumby, a little pretentios maybe. Just because the East Buttress of El Cap is not up to your (and some small group of aid climbers) standards, does not mean that it is not an El Cap rout, hense the ass-clownery. In relation to my mear sport climbing, if I told you that you did not actually send ro sham po because you did not do the red approved crux sequence, I would be the same same and you would tell me to piss off. So, whatever, climb and have fun, you may be good but that doesn't mean you and your buddies can make up rules. That being said, I hope you don't take any real offense to anything said on this site.

How you compare may not be as important as to whom you are compared
Paraphrasing someone I trust concerning the valley.......
"Anyone that says the East Buttress is an El Cap line hasn't climbed the big stone. In this case, I agree with the total tool."
So yeah, ynp1 may be right about the route, but everyone sill understands he is a total tool. This is a thread about how Rick kicks ass, not about how much of an ass clown tool you can be.
