I really hate the way chains look.

Then we'll wrap webbing around the chains, Andrew. Problem solved.

The routes at the Solar collector are fairly easy to clean. Something at the darkside would get my vote.

I don't like the way chain looks either, but I still install it for the longevity. I use transport chain which has a kind of gold tint to it and resists rusting much better than anything else I've seen on routes.
Oh man, he is messing that up. However, he is missing his left leg so that way would probably be harder for him. SCIN, just before spraying some beta for a climber doing a route the WRONG way.

chain does have its place on some routes. esp where a bolt has been placed and the draw rubs the rock. zack had a draw wear almost thru on skin boat, around the 4th bolt, in no time. places like that i think need chain but if no rub, no or little sun i would rather see neutral colored webbing.

If people are scared to take a lead fall on a piece of webbing hanging on a route with permadraws then change it out. Its a simple solution to a simple problem. Don't hang there and say "I don't know dude it looks sketchy." Just take a runner off one of your draws and switch it out. What do the cost five bucks?

The first draw of Shanghai at the Dark Side experiences crazy wear. Because of the ramp, the belayer stands so far out from the wall that there is a lot of friction on it. I pulled off a biner that was about 80% worn through (looks like you could snap it with your hands) and replaced it, but it wears quickly.

I'm sure the same could be said for the first bolt of Mama Benson, although it doesn't always have draws. (Shanghai usually does).

I guess you could just put steel biners on the current draws too...

The really steep routes at Bob Marley could use permanent draws for sure. Cleaning those routes absolutely sucks.

Its really weird, I would rather see a red two foot sling then a chain hanging. I say only use chains on the bolts that exposed to a lot of abuse, and only on steep routes.
