Terry would have analyzed every aspect of this actions. He would have known the impact of his decisions on the community, and expecially his daughter and his close friends.

Terry was not shellfish.

no, not a typo.

Thank you for sharing, Jeff. Your anger is natural. I suppose so is guilt and regret, unfortunately. I can't stop beating myself up, asking myself "what if" and playing out alternate realities... I also just can't bring myself to be angry with Terry. His pain was just more than he could take and he had to believe he had no other options in order to actually carry out his final act. I hope everyone who is angry will try to forgive him.

I really believe that all any of us can do is learn from this and hold onto each other a little tighter.

I miss you, Terry. I'm sorry I couldn't help you. I'm so sorry I didn't try harder.

I was hesitant to post this pic because at first glance, you may wonder on what level I knew Terry. However, I was holding him down giving him that knuckle death torcher (what the hell did he call it?) that he did to me. It's just so damny funny!

I didn't know Terry as well as others on this forum but did get the opportunity to be around him some. the days I did climb at the same crag with him were really good times. He was always being safe and showed me a few things that are critical in climbing. I admired him for all he provided to the red. Some of the most classic lines I have ever climbed are here in the red which were provided by him. Although he would never shut up, it was always interesting to hear the next sentence that was going to come out. RIP my friend

I've only been to the Red about 4 times. I think I saw him there every single time. He made me feel like I'd been an old friend from 20 years ago, and that I was visiting for the 400th time.

When I think of planning trips to the Red, one of the first things I think: "Sweet! We'll get to chat with Terry!". And oh what conversations they were. From physics to philosophy to aging to economics.

It won't be the same without him.

Like anitclimber said, it's so tough to be away from the Red, and especially when something like this happens. I've been thinking all morning of something to say, but all I can think of is the image of Terry running down the road, chasing (I think Scott and Christy's VW) and barking like a dog on the way to the cabin for the after-wedding party when Joe and I got married. My parents had asked me: "Who's that?" "Oh, that's just Terry" I had said. I had an unexpected, very out of the blue message from him not too long ago, asking when we were coming back to the Red...I guess he had run out of people to debate with and missed Joe. Well, we will miss him and we miss everyone so much and can't wait to come back. We've been really homesick and this makes us want to pack it up and come back even more, to be there for the community when it needs healing.

Be kind to one another and give someone a hug for us.

Wow. I have started typing about 5 times, but have been unable to finish anything. I am so sad about this, and like Sandy, wondering what I could have done.

Like so many others here, Terry set me straight on some things and caused me to hate him for a few minutes. But he was never one to hold a grudge or to pass judgement without trying to also make ammends.

I think we will all feel this loss, but I especially feel for those who we closest to him, so Wes, and Steph, and Blake, and Charlie and Bob and others... I am thinking of you and wish you healing in this time. I'm so very sorry.
