Is is a redpoint comp, meaning we get as many tries as we can in a given amount of time and we are only scored if we complete(redpoint) the route? Will there be belayers or should one make sure to pair up or bring a partner? Can I register Friday night late, when I get into the gorge. Can I register Saturday morning at Torrent? What time?
Yes, it is a "redpoint" comp, that is you must complete the route to get scored for it. Like an ABS comp the highest score will be awarded for completing the route first try. Lower scores will be awarded for second and then third try. After third try you will still get third try points. Belay slaves will not be provided. Partnering up will be essential. You also must bring all of your own gear, including trad gear if you want to do any of the trad routes. Trad route scores are weighted higher than sport. Remember that only a limited numer of routes in the lower grades will have TR or pre-clipped set-ups and that for higher grade routes you must bring and put up your own draws.
Registration is available now at Red River Outdoors and RockQuest in Cincinnati. Friday we will also set-up registration at Miguel's sometime late morning or early afternoon and will take registrations as late as reasonable. Registration will be available day of at RRO & Miguel's until 9:30am. Last minute registrations will be accepted at Torrent until the comp rule meeting starts around 10am on the deck at the Via Ferratta. But everyone is truly encouraged to pre-register and to carpool to Torrent due to limited parking.
