Artsay,

I think it would be a nice touch to list all the peoples names who contribute.
I mean like on a card or something when you give it to Mark and Kathy, not on here.

If you guys knew the dog and the owners, which im sure alot of you do, then it would be a different story. This dog isnt an agressive dog, but a very loving good dog. to fill you all in, the leash was no more than 6 feet long. not some 20 foot leash like most people mentioned. I know im going to get a lot of slack for this but you know i dont care, I love mark and kathy just as much if not more than all of you. But I am also really good friends with the accused party, and i know them very well and they would not mean to do anything to hurt anyone at the Red.
Okay, that does not give us any facts that we didn't know before. So the leash was 6 feet instead of 20. Bottom line, why did the dog attack? You can be good friends with someone and love a dog but refuse to condone this sort of behavior. Mark's dog is not aggressive. Apparently, this one was at least once and are just now taking responsibility for it. Good for them for taking that responsibility now. Still, I don't think I want this dog around mine anytime soon.

We have received exactly $180 in PayPal as well as several people who said they will send money/give it to us the next time they see us. This pot is getting big and I must say that I am really impressed. One person even donated $50!

If anyone wants to mail money, PM me for our address. I figure we'll drive down during the week next week to give them the money.

Jeff - I like your idea for the card and was thinking the same thing. Problem is, I don't know everyone's name that contributed. So, to any of you who think I didn't get your name from the PayPal donation receipt, please PM me your name. Thanks!

You all are awesome!

Sometimes dogs are more dangerous when on a short lease, tied up. I was bitten by a lab once that was tied between a boulder and the cliff face. The trail went right between them, the owner was belaying, dog freaked and nailed me. Hurt like hell for a few days. Point is if they don't have anywhere to go a dog may get a little crazy. Without knowing all the facts we are just pissing in the wind anyway.

I have a dog myself, its so gentle its been chased by a chipmunk! But I still won't take her to the crag.

Its between Mark and the owner of the dog. Its just way cool everyone is pullin' together on this one.

Allah, if the story isn't accurate as posted, please clarify - in defense of this person. As I heard it, the owner of the dog who attacked Mark's dog was not kind or helpful after the incident (I'm being generous here). Do you refute that? If not, then what explanation can you offer for walking away from a seriously injured dog when your friend's dog was responsible? Did he just not realize that Mark's dog was hurt? Given the extent of the injuries, how is that possible?

Kneebar, you are right. Most dogs are more territorial when on leashes. The dog's owner is 100% responsible for the dog's behavior, regardless.

Good news. The owners did in fact talk to Mark. Everything is fine. They offered to pay for the damage to Mark's dog and Mark declined. Turns out, these people didn't know that the dog was that damaged. Mark didn't know who they were because there didn't appear to be a problem. They thought that it was a simple bite that just "broke the skin." As soon as they found out what was up, they contacted Mark and made the situation right, which is what he wanted.

It's still awesome that we're giving money. Artsay, I'll drop off the dough asap.

Another thing Allah, I re-read this thread and I don't see anything that I have said or others that indicates we were ready to burn this guy at the stake. My initial post established the BARE facts. There wasn't anything inflammatory that I could tell. Just the minimum of what I have been told and a request that they contact Mark.

The other posts in this thread have been ultra-supportive of Mark, along with some postulations about how we would handle it if our dogs were hurt. How would you feel if Maliki were hurt?
